Morel Mushrooms: Where And How To Find Them

There are regions in the United States where Morel mushrooms can be found, especially from April to June. Many prefer the Great Lakes area for their mushroom hunting, but they can be found in other states as well.


The climate changes play an important role in the appearance of Morel mushrooms. They are quite pretentious and they need a temperature that does not reach more than 60-70 degrees during the day, and not less than 40 degrees during the night. A good level of soil moisture is also needed.


When hunting for Morel mushrooms, you need to search under pine trees, or different vegetation that lies on the ground. These mushrooms like a lot to hide under plants that do not grow too tall; there are many places where they can grow, so, if you discovered a great spot, you just need to go back there every year for mushrooms.


Forest fires are very beneficial for these mushrooms. On that ground, Morel mushrooms will grow for the next few years, so this is the reason why fire reports are so watched by those that sell this product on the market.


There are about two weeks when you can pick up the mushrooms, as, after that, they will fade away. Either way, you need to check the mushrooms you have picked for any signs of decay. It is advisable to eat them in about two or three days maximum after you collected them, or otherwise, they will no longer be good to eat. Also, if you want to sell them, it is enough to have half a bag of good mushrooms, and you will be able to make a sell.


Here are some tips on picking up mushrooms. You need to pinch them above the ground and you need a large bag to put them in. A weave design is recommended for mushroom harvest, as it allows spores to fall to the ground and a new crop to grow.


You will be able to get rid of bugs and other creatures that tend to stick to the mushrooms by rinsing them with cold water. After that, cut them and rinse them once again; put them in a bowl with a cloth to cover them.

But if you lack experience, there is a solution: choose someone that has dealt with mushroom hunting in the past and ask them to come with you. They will teach you how to recognize the good mushrooms and how to tell if the mushroom you pick is poisonous. You also need to search the Internet for websites that show how good mushrooms look like.
