A Moroccan room is always painted with rich colors. If you want to get some inspiration, think about spices, like saffron or cinnamon, to get an idea about how to paint the walls. The ceiling will also have to be painted. A white ceiling is completely out of the question. You can use the same color as you did to paint the walls, or you can go for a darker shade, to create the illusion of a wider room.
When doing the paint job, do not forget about molding, which includes the window frames, the doors, the baseboards, and the crown molding. Nothing white should appear in your Moroccan bedroom. For this part of the painting stage, you can choose colors that are in contract with those used for the walls and the ceiling, or just a similar undertone.
For the furniture, different styles can be approached. Find some pieces that are Moroccan to complete your furniture, but, if you do not find, try some African or some Asian furniture, as well. Dark wood is the color needed to create that luxurious atmosphere. You can even go as bold as to stain or paint the furniture you have, to give it another look.
When you go shopping for new furniture, do not let out second hand stores, garage sales or flea markets, as these are very good sources of unique pieces. Some repairs may be required to make the furniture look new, but the potential it has is more important, so it is worth giving it a try. Carved woodwork, inlaid design, decorative metalwork, should be among your choices.
Finally, you can complete your Moroccan bedroom with a lot of accessories. Small rugs are a must, as they can complete the already carpeted floor. Curtains must reach the floor, to give that exotic feeling. Lamps and candles will create the lighting necessary for a real Arabian Night. A canopy over your bed or drapes of fabric hanging from the ceiling will also add to this atmosphere. Integrate different exotic knick-knacks in your room design, and do not forget about cushions. They are a must when you want to create a lavish, comfortable atmosphere.
You do not have to be strict about your Moroccan experience. As Morocco is a trade center, a mix of cultures exists there, so you should not be afraid about adding extra touches that are not strictly Moroccan.
Rich colors are on the list, do not forget. You can use a strong yellow for your curtains, or for your pillows. Experiment with colors like purple, turquoise and cobalt. Consider your bedroom a great storage place for exotic things, and continue to collect them all the time. The result will be a great bedroom, with a great atmosphere.
