Anyone that considers moving to England, should think about what all this moving thing will imply. For Americans, this experience may transform into an ordeal, if they do not learn a few things about England.

You should be very informed about what England is, what Britain is and what UK is, as they are not all exactly the same thing.

Moving to England will also require you to obtain British citizenship or an EU citizenship. For that, you will need a visa first. Any tourist that comes visiting is allowed to spend six month in this country without working. Plus, you need to show proof that you have enough money to sustain yourself for this duration and to show that you have a return ticket. You will be questioned about your whereabouts, no doubt. Remember that you do not get national health insurance, but you may get treatment for medical emergencies, if this is the case.

American citizens working in UK for a company from the US will not be required a work visa. But, if you plan to work for a company from there, a work visa is needed. Your employer must take care of the paper work before your arrival. For that, you will need to get yourself employed first, so search the Internet for job opportunities in the UK.

If you want to move along with your pets on your tail, you must know that there are a lot of procedures involved with that. Pets must be quarantined for six months, proof of vaccines, blood testing and so on. You will need to consult the legislation on the matter, before embarking your cat with you on the plane! Ask your vet about proper paperwork that needs to be completed, so they do not take you by surprise. You will need to wait for those papers to be approved and that will take maximum two days.

When looking for an apartment or a house, consider the fact that London is a very expensive city. Rent prices are calculated per week and not per month and you will need to get accustomed to money conversions, if you do not want to have some nasty surprises. You will find flats to let, after you make some online searches.

Even if London is expensive, other places are less costly. If you want to move to Leeds, or Manchester, you will discover that prices there are smaller.

Get prepared for some depressing weather coming your way. In England, it rains and it is foggy for extended periods of time. Also, the winters are very dark, with very little sunlight during the day. Even if it does not rain that often as you may have heard, weather in England can be tough for someone that did not come in contact with that up till that moment.

When you pick a place to live, make sure that it is close to public transportation, so you can get to different destinations quickly and easy. Also, looking for a job may seem like a daunting task, but start with bar jobs, as these are very easy to obtain without having qualifications. Here are a few details on how workers are paid in the UK: for those over 22, the minimum wage is 5.35 per hour, for 18-21 year olds, 4.45 per hour and for those of 16 and 17 years of age, 3.30 per hour.

If you want to get accustomed to living in England, you will have to learn about the laws there. Ignorance cannot be used as an excuse. Also, it will serve to get familiar to the way people talk in the area where you are going to live. It will be easier for you to integrate in a community.
