If you are interested in how to learn to play guitar, I have got a few tips to give. I've been playing of and on for the past 20 years and can tell you what kind of learning programs works for me. I actually don't care about being a technical player or learning theory. I need to enjoy what I do, play songs that suit my buddies and family, and do so in a relaxed environment. My goal is simply to relax on the porch or in the living room, strum some chords, sing along, have pals over who can play and sing too, and just like it. The scales and theory of music did not interest me, so again I felt the formal class wasn't for me.

At last, what worked best for me is being able to go at my own pace, select what I learned, and ensure i enjoyed it.
