My children are very frequently struggling with their statistics assignments
|
I think that the reason is in the method of teaching. I have a deep argue to claim what I say. I possess formal training in math, or otherwise said, I'm a mathematician, and I can tell you that I know why is this, and I'm terribly surprised that no one else raise her hand to complain. It happens that kids really are not punishable of the butchery we can live at every respected stats course. I mean, let's face it, a large part of students face some very primary requirements, and it is enough for them to echo formulas like a parrot. That way they pass their statistics class with almost no difficulty. But however those don't retain even the name of their textbook. And then you find those that have to face some teachers that seem to think that their pupils are some form of experts, and will designate an extraordinary amount of statistics homework. Youngsters sink subsequently. Why? I still haven't established the solution, right? But in reality, students are not told the complete history. They are told to believe that statistics is a kind of stand-alone course that starts with its own principles and all you need to see everything clear, but that is not true. In order to satisfactorily undergo a hard statistics course you must initially master Probabilty. Period. It is unfeasible to figure the end of a account without being familiar the first part of it. And it this case, Statistics is final part of a tale that begins with Probability, and there is no possibility of reverting the order or omit parts. I have constantly wondered why they do it. And then they quetch because a big portion of students are trying to find statistics homework help online, because they are nto able to find it in their own class room, because they are drawn to understand of a story without knowledge of the start of it. How can we solve this? Well, it is a bad problem. Teachers ordinarily cannot do anything about it, because they have to follow a design for each career that comes from higher levels in the college organization. Can you imagine them? "The student is required to show a sound comprehension of statistical analysis, and this and that". They are not conscious of the process of math learning, because they strongly desire to create experts in a field by bounding off the essential steps to achieve that level of expertise, and that is certainly dangerous, no wonder about it. They really want to create masters, but apparently they lack of the comprehension of the requirements to create that expert. No questions the time of transformations has come, and it will be for good. We want things to be re-designed, at least what has to do with math education.
