Mystery Auctions: The Real Tricks

A mystery auction is exactly what the name suggests: an auction at which no one knows what they will buy. Such auctions are often being held on eBay and they attract quite a crowd, due to all the mystery around them.

All the strange items were sold on eBay against prices that would make your head spin. People tend to sell the strangest things on eBay, but, with mystery auctions, you may not know what you can discovered. Some go as far as to confiscate an expensive present from a cheating spouse and then sell it on eBay for a couple thousand dollars.

The mystery about the auction is that you get to bid on a box or on an envelope. You may just get an empty box, but chances are that you can get many things. For instance, some mystery auctions let you bid for a sum of money that is not disclosed, or for a box containing valuable stamps or rare collectibles. The sky's the limit with these strange auctions, and, while you can end up with just an empty envelope, you can even get an important sum of money, or items that are rare and that can be sold for an extra profit.Things do not stop here when it comes to mystery auctions. Of course, one of the rules is that no one can know what is contained in those boxes or envelopes. But clues can be given along the way, just as long as the main subject remains a mystery.

You can get to stay away from scammers, if you check the sellers to see their history on eBay. Chances are, if they have never had a transaction before, that you will come out empty handed. Try to search for honest buyers, by checking with their eBay history. Mystery auctions have their charm, but not if you end up being cheated.

Searching for clues

Mystery auctions do not mean that you will just have to bid blindly on something that you do not see or have the chance to see. Seasoned sellers know how to rise interest in their items, by giving enough clues in order to let the buyers decide whether the items sold at the auction are of any use to them. Many times, mystery auctions include collectibles, properties, and even investment opportunities. Here is an example to understand the idea.

First, the details about the seller: you will see that on eBay they will let you know whether that person has ever sold something on eBay. If the person is already known for selling a type of products, like, let's say, properties, then here is your first clue.

Secondly, you can collect clues from the statement for the mystery auction itself. If the mystery auction refers to the selling of land parcels, without mentioning where they are located, of course, then you will know whether to bid or not. Sometimes, the seller will try to entice bidders, by offering something extra that is not so mysterious. This will let you know if, in the end, you just can get something for all your troubles.

Properties and investment opportunities are very sought after, but the truth is that most sellers concentrate on collectibles, rare stamps, share certificates, coins and so on. If you like to rummage through tons of memorabilia, then you should look for those mystery auctions that have something to do with it.
