In recent years, we have probably heard more about network marketing than ever before in the past. Of course, network marketing has been around for quite some time but in the past it was not so well disguised. It was commonly referred to as pyramid schemes and scams. Today, such highly suspect business dealings can be somewhat more difficult to recognize. In fact, one way in which you may hear network marketing referred to as is with the term MLM; or multi-level marketing. When approached with this technique, it may sound almost legitimate. Network marketing ideas are usually approached in a variety of similar manners; however. One of the most common ways in which it may be approached is usually by someone you know. They may tell you about an incredible business opportunity they’ve stumbled into and then proceed to invite you to lunch so that you can learn more about this fabulous opportunity. While multi-level marketing can sound legitimate, when presented in the right light, there are certain problems with this type of network marketing that you should be aware of before you take the plunge. One of the biggest problems with multi-level marketing is that there is generally market saturation. This means that by the time you are invited to join this amazing opportunity, there are usually so many other people involved in marketing the exact same product and design that you are doomed from the beginning. Stop and consider what happens when two similar business open in locations within close proximity to one another. One of two things occurs. Either the stronger business drives the weaker business completely out of business or both businesses fail all together. More than one franchise has learned this lesson the hard way. Sometimes, it simply doesn’t pay to overly saturate your marketplace, even if it is with your own products. If you happen to be a fan of late night television programs, there’s a good chance that you’ve seen at least one or more commercials claiming that someone has discovered a really hot product that simply everyone will want to buy. This claim is usually followed up by an offer for an opportunity for you to get in on the ‘ground floor’ of this amazing marketing opportunity. The important thing to remember here is that very few products and services are so wonderful that ‘everyone’ will want them. Most successful marketers recognize that their products and services have a definite demographic group to which they appeal and focus their marketing campaign on that group. Don’t buy into the idea that someone has come up with the ultimate product that simply everyone will rush to the phones to purchase. Before becoming involved with multi-level marketing campaigns, you must stop and ask yourself a few honest questions. How much of a demand really exists for this product? Is there even a demographics group out there that would pay money for it? If there is a demand, how long with that demand last? Recognize the fact that even if there ever existed a demand for this product, in many cases that demand level may have already been reached and you will be left sailing in the wind when you try to market it. You must also consider why the manufacturer of this product has attempted to market it through multi-level marketing. After all, if the product were so wonderful and so great, why isn’t it being offered through traditional marketing techniques?
