NY Giants Win Super Bowl XL-II against New England Patriots Super bowl Sunday of February 3rd 2008 went down as the most viewed game in the games history. The super bowl game was watched by over 97.5 Million people and that’s in the United States alone. Global audience outside of the states is expected to have been over 100 Million viewers. In what is now dubbed the biggest upsets in the Super Bowl History, the NewEngland Patriots lost 17-14 to the New York Giants. So much for the New Yorkers, who few expected to hold their ground against such names as Tom Brady and Randy Moss. But as fate would have it, Patriots offense was kept at abeyance by the Giants incessantly infuriating and persistent quarter back. Randy received quite some beating from the forwards that at one point he was n his knees-they just kept coming. The Giant’s offense was so bad that it put the pats defense in disarray, broke their ranks and continued to make scores. “We just hang in there on offense, kept executing,” said Plaxico Buress. Buress had earlier on made a prediction the giants who trounce the Pats 23-17.” It came down to one play and we made it.” The big pats upset by Giants is especially rare since the winners were a wild card and without a previous shinning record in the NFL as the patriots who had had an otherwise perfect season. The giants Coach Tom Coughlin explained their 11-1 season proper record, that “It’s the way we went about our work,” The road signified the coming together of a team, we rode that emotion all the way through.” New England may also have been victims of a revenge mission from the giants, and other NFL teams. The spygate scandal involving the New England in September had made headlines in the week of the super bowl and could have created an air of defeat on New England’s otherwise perfect season. The Patriots only made a score on the game’s first two drives until the frantic efforts when loosing became a possibility in their minds in the fourth quarter. On the other hand New York did all they had set to do and used about 10 minutes to go 63 yards. They almost made the whole 63 yards were it not for quite and had to settle for a 32-yard field goal. This was after they converted four third downs on the 16-play series. There was some record of sorts with the 9:59 drive being the longest in super Bowl history. The giants 3-0 lead lasted through that quarter, and the patriots were unlucky enough to be stopped at the Giants 1 as the quarter ended. On the following play the gifted Laurence Maroney made a brilliant score. The patriot’s 12-play drive was assisted by their 16-yard pass interruption penalty on linebacker Antonio Pierce at the end zone. The play had begun with Maroney’s 43-yard kickoff runback. The giants lost a chance after the new kid on the block Steve Smith lost hold of Eli Manning’s throw at Patriot’s 10. The game was saved by Ellis Hobbs who intercepted and returned it to 23. The team had started off the second quarter at a thundering speed when Amani Toomer caught a lunging sideline for 38 yards. Giants were to later recover from a rookie’s Ahmad Bradshaw’s mistake. He however recovered on the next series. Brady was sacked by the New York Giants several plays, forcing a punt. The giants were slowed by a penalty from illegally batting the ball on Bradshaw on reaching the patriots 25. The patriot’s offense side met stiff challenges from the hailed New York Giants defense line which called the shots for most of the half pitch. To hold at bay the New Englander’s is no small feat and it takes a doggedly determined and unflinching defense line to do that. The patriots were however, for most of the half play held at merely 81 Yards and at seven Points. The patriots could only manage the ball 10:33 The giants were also quick on the recovery as Justin Tuck’s second sack was quickly regained by New York Team mate Osi Umenyiora. Brady had to give it to them, “we played them five weeks ago and it was a three-point game,” Brady Said. “And they made enough changes and really eliminated what we did offensively.” The New York giants got their turn as the younger but fast shining Manning brawled enough to find David Tyree for a 5-yard touchdown to finish an 80 yard drive for the 10-7 superb lead. The Patriots were feeling the pressure that they aren’t used to and responded with a classic 80-yard romp as Brady broke away. Moss managed to further shine on his record at 23 lower than Brady’s 50 TD throws this year, when he scored at 2:42 left on the clock. Eli Manning Capitalized on Corey Webster’s fall; snatched the ball away and gave the Giants their winning score right on kneel down.
