Newest Technology - Where it Stands

As human beings, one thing that most of us have in common is that we are always looking for the newest technology. Not just the kind of technology that you see today, but anything new in society that makes our lives easier, more exciting, and more promising. In olden times it could have been things like water pumps and cotton gins, today we look forward to fully functional palm-sized computers and holographic video games. It all depends on the times, but our yearning for the newest technology hasn't changed. As with most things, and especially with technology, there are good things and there are bad things about it.

A lot of people say that with each newest technology implement, we become lazier and more self centered. And even though technology is supposed to make our lives easier, it doesn't necessarily make us happier. Some theorists say that this is because we actually have to perform some hands-on hard work to feel fulfilled, even if that hands-on hard work is in our minds. The more we have things that do our work for us, and sometimes even do our thinking for us, the less confidence we can build in ourselves over time. Often with the newest technology we end up feeling emptiness inside, though we're not sure where it's coming from.

The newest technology does not have to make us feel this way. Indeed, some technology has given a lot of people hope, such as what happens when there are innovations in medicine and health care equipment. There is good to be found in most things, technology included. What we want to do is remember that we need to feel useful on many levels, so letting technology completely take over can be bad for our psyches. If we remember to give ourselves tasks to complete that do not involve technology on a large basis, we are doing ourselves a favor.

There is another bottom line here; sometimes even the most innovative and newest technology cannot rival that which we can do ourselves. Sometimes there is a human factor needed in order to make something complete. We can make computer programs that can act as therapists for people. It can ask all of the right questions and even give all of the right answers, but it's not very likely to help someone feel better. They need the human interaction. We can't replace the human factor, but the good news is that most of wouldn't ever want to.
