The Nintendo Gamecube system is not a joke. No other gaming company could emulate the classic characters that Nintendo has built over its years. From Mario to Zelda, to Metroid to Donkey Kong, Nintendo has molded these characters and their stories for years and years, and are still continuing to do so. Classic systems and games such as the original 8 bit Nintendo NES are searched for by avid gamers for its originality and replay value. Nintendo has released gaming consoles in 1985 the NES, in 1992 the SNES, the Nintendo 64, and the long awaited Gamecube in 2003. Nintendo has also released a slew to handheld consoles such as the original Gameboy, the Gameboy advance, and the SP, Nintendo has built their handhelds with the same theme utilizing their classic characters as the focal point. While compared to Sony’s PlayStation 2 or Microsoft’s Xbox, the Nintendo system lacks in games. The PlayStation 2 and the Xbox has flooded the market with their abundance of first person shooters, role playing games, and action games and has quickly taken the spotlight. It is often not to surprising to find yourself searching from store to store looking for the perfect Gamecube game. Nintendo Gamecube has a lack of major tittles and this alone may be the cause of their falling popularity. Nintendo has been criticized by the gaming industry to depend too much on their own characters and has failed to open up to new ideas and suggestions. The Nintendo Company may have milked their characters for too long, and are now feeling the push that caused them to jump onto other tittles such as the final fantasy, and resident evil series. The Nintendo Gamecube controller is very close to flawless. The L and R buttons, analog sticks, rumble pack, and staple buttons are well placed. When playing games on the Gamecube, you could actually get a feeling about if the game is an exclusive title to Gamecube or not. The Gamecube exclusive titles show time and dedication in the organization of the controller and its buttons. Other non-exclusive games such as resident evil do not display that type of controller smoothness Mario titles have. The top L and R buttons almost feel customized for your own hands as those buttons are curved and smoothed to perfection. Certain titles such as the EA games series use the same generic button layouts as they do on other systems and it does cause the game play to become stale. The Gamecube excels in the graphics department. The Nintendo systems are notorious for their cartoon style graphics and child like visuals. The Xbox and PlayStation offer very life like drawings and animations; however, these two systems do require loading time at almost every scene change. Similar to the Gamecube controllers, the Gamecube excels and performs best on Gamecube exclusive titles. Metroid Prime, Luigi’s Mansion, Zelda have almost breathtaking graphics and cut scenes. It is safe to conclude that in the department of party games, Gamecube easily takes the cake. No other system can offer 4 player multi-action party games with classic themes and characters. The Gamecube may offer cartoon style graphics; however, they do offer the highest frame rates per second. Meaning the graphics are the smoother and more flowing then the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The only downside to the Gamecube system would be its sound. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the sound offered from the Nintendo Gamecube system; however, it does sound generic. Surround sound is pretty non-existent unless the television is hooked onto a high powered elaborate system. The sound is backed up by Dolby Surround Sound, but it does fail to deliver. The sound offered by non-exclusive titles sound flat and stale reason being it is not a 5.1 system rather just a Dolby Pro Logic 2. The Nintendo Gamecube system offers high action packed multiplayer games at amazing prices. Starting from just 100 dollars with one game of choice being included, and one controller, the Gamecube systems are almost being giving away. With controllers starting from approximately 24 dollars, the Gamecube for fills its purpose of being the best party and gaming system created. The only aspect that Gamecube is lacking is online play; however, there really does not seem to be a need for online play with its 4 player action. The Nintendo Gamecube offers amazing exclusive titles, nice and easy controllers, smooth almost flawless graphics, and surround sound.
