Baby carriers are a great, safe way to carry your baby and are far more convenient than the traditional pushchair method. Whether you are simply walking through town, or feel more adventurous and are going on a hike, finding a good carrier for your child is easy. There are many to choose from; simply visit a site such as www.readytoleave.com for an idea of what is available. There are three main styles of carrier; the front carrier the back carrier and the sling style, which has been used all over the world for generations. If you are considering using a baby carrier, there are a few things you can look at to help you decide which one would suit you and your baby. The front style baby carrier is designed to hang over the shoulders and carry the baby in front of you. Often this type of carrier has two positions so that the baby can face towards you or away from you, depending on your preference. They are ergonomically designed and cushioned to provide the best possible levels of comfort for you and your baby. They also have back supports, so carrying a child is easier and less stressful on your spine. They are usually adjustable so that they can be lengthened as your baby changes shape. They come in a full range of colours and come in framed or material harness types. Good quality ones are machine washable so that you can keep them clean easily. Back baby carriers are designed so that the baby sits on your back in a ‘piggy back’ type position. These are often better for walking long distances but are less intimate than the front style carriers. Arguably this type of carrier has less impact on the spine and muscles of your back. ‘Piggy back’ style carriers are carefully designed for comfort and safety, with adjustable straps fitted, allowing the carrier to be altered as your child grows. They also have additional features such as pockets. These types of carrier can be more difficult to place your child into, but once the child is in they can be much easier to walk with. The last type of baby carrier is the more traditional sling variety. This is a wrap around sheet that holds your baby similar to the ones that have been used in countries all over the world for thousands of years. Although not suited to everyone, and certainly not for younger babies, they have the added benefit of being light, portable and easily folded up into smaller carrying cases. Other types of baby carrier can be cumbersome, but a sling type certainly isn’t. They come in a variety of colours and can be easily taken on and off. When choosing a baby carrier it is important to consider your child’s safety and comfort, but it is equally important to consider your own. Sling varieties are extremely convenient and light, can easily be washed and folded away, but are perhaps better for shorter walks. Back varieties are good for long distance treks but have a less intimate feel to them. The front carriers are much more intimate but can be a little harder on the back. It is best to think carefully about how you intend to use you carrier when choosing the right type to buy.
