Somehow, it is fitting that Nokia themselves describe the N73 not as a mobile phone, but rather as a multimedia computer. Indeed, with the entire N-series, Nokia has produced powerful multimedia tools that take full advantage of advances in technology to deliver what may well end up to be the style of the next generation. For now however, it is essentially a top end mobile phone that pushes 3G technology to the very limits.

Features of the Nokia N73

Being based on its predecessor, the N70, this latest model trumps it from the get-go by simple merit of being slightly more compact, a lot sleeker, and lighter. True enough, with the N-series Nokia decided to go for power first and compactness later, however it is nice to have some manner of sleekness as opposed to the brick-like phones that do not sit comfortably in pockets no matter how you try to place them.

By including a 3.2 megapixel camera, the N73 outshines most rivals especially due to the Carl Zeiss Optics and CMOS sensor. In fact, its 20x digital zoom outdoes even some of the higher definition 5.0 megapixel cameras that came after it. Being more computer than mobile phone has its advantages, as there is even a photo editor included on the N73, just for all those touch-ups, crops, or sharpening that may be required.

Just like the rest of the N-series, the N73 is based around the Symbian operating system, and although it can occasionally be slightly slow on loading some features, overall it performs dependably. Not only that, but there seem to constantly be new and improved Symbian-based software that keep coming out, ensuring that the N73 and its siblings will constantly be up to date.

It should go without saying, but the N73 does come with the other, more common, features of most mobile phones. With a media player, games, Bluetooth and USB compatibility, and miniSD card support for additional storage. Not much left to be desired, really.

Mobile Computer for the Mobile Age

Lets face it, having a computer the size of a mobile phone is handy. And, of course, having a computer that is a mobile phone is even handier still. Mostly, this is why the fusion between mobile phones and mobile computers appear to be so inevitable: it really does make sense that it eventually happens. So the only real question is, does it make sense for it to happen now?

Apparently Nokia thinks so, at least, and judging from the success that their N-series has enjoyed so far, and the new N73 looks set to enjoy too, it seems as if others agree too. Of course, there is still room for improvement, but for creating a phone that has broken new ground, Nokia deserves credit.

Essentially, for those looking desperately for mobile phone deals, the Nokia N73 offers a great package, provided of course that the customer actually has reason to want to use everything that it offers. Certainly a powerful toy, and more than that, a very, very useful mobile phone.
