Olive Oil Nutrition Facts



Fats are used by the body for warmth, energy, growth development, repair of body tissues, cellular health, healthy complexion and hair, uptake and storage of fat-soluble vitamins, and hormonal balance in women and teenage girls.

Unsaturated fats are generally healthy and usually of plant origin. These fats reduce the blood levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, and increase the levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. A majority of the fats in your diet should be unsaturated (oily fish, olive oil, nuts, seeds, avocados).

Over the social history of civilization, our great writings and traditions have upheld norms of behavior and action that seem to lead to fuller and longer life, warning us against those things that make life less worth living and shorten it. We tend to neglect or disregard this wisdom in our youth, and then wish we had followed it when we are older.

Out of the ‘diet/heart’ hypothesis came several large-scale, long-term, human intervention studies to be set up in many parts of the world. These involved thousands of subjects and hundreds of doctors and scientists costing billions of dollars to prove that a fatty diet caused heart disease.

Do WHATEVER you can to get your protein every three hours. Because your body cannot store protein, it runs out approximately every three hours. What happens when your body runs out of a protein source? It starts BREAKING DOWN your hard-earned muscle for amino acids to use for metabolic processes. So by all means, get your protein!

Carbohydrates are a primary source of the energy we need to think and move. Our body needs between 50-60% of the foods we eat every day to contain carbohydrates in order to have the energy stores necessary to complete our daily to-do lists and stay healthy.

Fresh Fruit is also important, with the average required servings being 2-3 every day. While canned or packaged fruits give you some of the vitamins and minerals you need, they also come with high sugar levels, so try and opt for fresh fruit whenever possible. Besides, it usually tastes better!

As counter intuitive as it may seem, fat is a good thing. We need it - just please, not so much of it. Contrary to the American mentality, "more is better," more fat is not better. In fact, whether it comes from a cow, a fish, a vegetable, a seed, or an olive, too much fat adds fat to our fat.

The fact is that every olive producing region has climate and soil conditions, giving a special character to the oil produced and doesn't have much to do with an inherent level of quality that can be pinpointed as inferior or superior. Soil makeup and climate procure a unique flavor, amounting to plain preference or affinity of particular oils to foods within the same locale.

Cherries are absolutely loaded with anti-inflammatory, antiaging, anticancer compounds that don't show up on your average nutrition facts label. These include quercetin, a member of the flavonoid family which has powerful anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer properties.
