Organic Plant Food - A Better Option

Organic plant food is growing in popularity around the globe. It's about providing the best nutrition for your plants while at the same time making a commitment to the environment. After all organic is not only better for the plants it's better for the planet.

If you want to go back to the basics there are a few things you can do besides using an organic food for your plants. Start by utilizing mother nature and what she has to offer better.

Grab a pen and paper and draw out your yard. Determine what areas are shady, what areas get lots of sun, where your best soil is, and where your flower beds are. This will help you choose the right plants for the right areas. Remember plants native to the area are more likely to do better with less interaction by you.

Plants native to the area are going to be hardier and more able to accept and deal with local weather conditions. They will only need a little help from you and that will come in the form of good plant food and fertilizer to give them that little boost.

If you were buying traditional fertilizer you would look for the following:1. Nitrogen2. Phosphorus3. Potassium

When you buy organic products you will find that the same benefits are achieved using different sources. For example seaweed fertilizer has become very popular. Of course there are plenty of others!

Organic plant foods are also a great choice for your vegetable gardens. Let's face it - anything that reduces the amount of chemicals we use on our food is a good thing and has to be better for us.

These products are applied in much the same way as their chemical counterparts. They are available in granular and liquid forms with liquid being very popular. It's easy to mix and use, requires no special equipment, and it's concentrated form means storing the product takes up very little space.

When buying organic don't just grab because you see the word organic. Things can be pretty vague in the plant food industry. Be sure to read the list of ingredients to make sure it meets with your approval. Some organic products may still contain chemicals so be careful.

Our environment is important and we each need to do our part to take care of it. Gardening is a great way to help our environment and using organic plant food is just one more step in the right direction. So why not make a change this season?
