Ortho Fertilizer As Part Of Your Lawn Care

Have you got one of those neighbors where their lawn just makes you green with envy? You know what I'm talking about. A thick, lush, deep green grass with not a single weed to be seen. So what's their secret? Well you could start with including Ortho fertilizer as part of your lawn care program.

Your lawn is just like any other plant you might decide to grow. It requires nutritious food to look its best. And the proper nutrients will help your lawn not only look great but also become more able to adapt to drought, disease, and even pests.

Part of the problem is the confusion about trying to figure out what you need to do to make that lawn look great. You might be surprised to discover it is actually easier to take care of your lawn than it is to take care of your flowers.

The bottom line is no matter what type of plant you are dealing with it requires nutrients and those nutrients are found in the soil and that's where plant food comes into play.

The soil around new homes is highly unlikely to have the nutrients needed. Older established yards are much more likely to have the needed nutrients but new homes have generally seen a contractor backfill then plant a lawn. Occasionally a load of top soil might be hauled in.

In lawn that is not yet established you do not need to bother doing a soil test. You can simply assume that it is nutrient deficient and begin treating appropriately. More important is to know the type of grass you have so that you can treat appropriately.

The type of grass will depend a great deal on where you live. Northern states often use ryegrass, bluegrass or fine fescues. Where as Southern states will more often use grasses like Bermuda grass or St. Augustine grass.

The best time to feed your lawn when it first comes out being dormant from the winter. After the first cut you should apply the first fertilizer treatment using a spreader. Then after that you should feed it every eight weeks for the balance of the year. If you don't feed it every eight weeks you need to feed it at least spring and fall for basic maintenance.

If you feed your lawn regularly you will watch your lawn evolve into the same beautiful lawn your neighbor has. The roots will become stronger and better able to sustain themselves no matter the conditions. You will also find your lawn becomes much more resistant to diseases and pests.

One morning you'll awake to discover you've become that neighbor. Suddenly you have the lawn that everyone is jealous off. When you look out the window you see a lush green lawn that has no weeds and looks like it's ready to support the next golf tournament.

And it all starts with Ortho fertilizer. The question is are you ready for the attention?
