While not everyone necessarily enjoys the frigid temperatures that winter brings, there are a few things you can do to cope with the cooler temperatures by taking advantage of the solace and comfort provided by adequate outerwear. By layering your body with sufficient outerwear you are not only able to stay warmer, drier and more comfortable but you are also more likely to avoid the chance of becoming ill; making your winter season suddenly appear much brighter.
One of the most important pieces of outwear that you should invest in if you live in or plan to visit an area prone to cold temperatures is a good quality coat. Wool is one of the most classic choices for coats; however if you want to go with something a bit trendier, down filled parkas and bomber-style jackets are also quite in style. Both short and thee-quarter length styles work well and will keep you toasty warm. When shopping for coats, always be sure to look for strong stitching and a warm lining. Depending on your needs, you may also want to look for a coat that is water resistant and has a hood.
Ski wear is very popular for outerwear, whether you're planning to hit the slopes or simply visit the grocery store around the corner. Fur trimmed parkas are very stylish this year as are padded vests in a wide variety of colors. Some of the hottest colors this season are actually pastels in pinks, blues and greens.
As we have all known for a long time, one of the best ways to stay warm during the winter months is by laying clothing and articles of outerwear. One of the best ways to do that this winter season is with quilted vests. The new designs in quilted vests have been specifically engineered to flatter the feminine form, making it possible to look slim and svelte this winter despite layers of heavy winter clothing.
Gloves are another must in order to survive the ravages of a cold winter. There are numerous types of fabrics and materials for gloves; ranging from standard wool to fleece and cotton. The type of glove that you purchase will depend on your needs and you should take the time to thoroughly investigate the brands and styles on the market. Obviously, one of the most important factors you should consider is whether a pair of gloves will keep your hands warm and dry or not, but also consider these options. For example, you might want to think about whether you prefer a glove with a warm, but super thin lining that will allow you freedom of movement for purposes such as driving or whether you feel you need something with a thicker padding and lining.
During winter, hats are not only a way to make a fashion statement but also a method for retaining body heat and protecting yourself from ear infections due to driving, cold winds. There are numerous styles and sizes of hats on the market this season ranging from styles that are quite reminiscent of the 1920's such as the cloche and fedora as well as more modern styles.
Scarves are also an important way to stave off the cooler temperatures this winter and come in a wide range of colors and styles. Whether you're looking for something fun in bright and bold colors that you can loop around your neck several times and still have some to dangle or something that is a bit more of a classic design and capable of being tucked neatly into an equally classic wool coat, you can find affordable designs in most winter outerwear shops this season.
The goal is insulating yourself, trapping a layer between your skin and the environment. Good fabrics include fleece (Polartec, Thinsulate), wool and cotton. Wear layers of breathable fabrics. The most airy textiles should be worn closest to the skin and the most air-tight should be worn furthest out. Choose outerwear that's both windproof and waterproof. Because most body heat seeps out through the extremities, put the most emphasis on weather-resistant hats, gloves, scarves and footwear.
