Securing objects on a pallet is quite an art and it requires a little bit more knowledge than people suspect. With some plastic film, different items can be tight to a pallet for easy transportation, but there is more to it. Let's see how you, too, can master this packaging technique.

It is important to choose a pallet that is fit for the job. You will need a sturdy piece of pallet to hold all the weight of your items, and one that is of the perfect size, so these objects do not fall off the pallet, or move loosely on it. Arrange the items on the pallet, so they are close together, to avoid them banging against each other during transportation.

In order to make your wrapping operation easier, put the pallet on a stack of other empty pallets. You will bend less while doing this and, if you put it at a 45 degree angle on the diagonal, you will end up wrapping it up in a very short amount of time with minimum hassle.

You will need a roll of shrink wrap when doing this. Take about a yard of plastic of it at first, and squeeze it at the end so it forms a rope like shape. Put this rope through one corner in the pallet; you will not need to tie a knot there. Continue with wrapping the rest of the plastic over the corner several times: this will form a sturdy glued corner of wrap.

If you want your wrapping job to hold during transportation, start with a strong foundation. Use the same direction as for the first fold, and wrap the base more than a couple of times, until you feel that it is well glued; while doing this, let the edge of the wrap to go under the corners.

When placing the items on the pallet, keep in mind that they must all form a single unit, held together by the wrapping material. Put a first layer of items and wrap them on the pallet. Add the next layer of items and proceed in the same way. Stretch well the plastic to ensure firmness.

When you are done with all the items that need to be placed and wrapped on the pallet, you can add another wrapping from top to down, just to make sure that the items will not move during transportation. Check the unit, to see if it moves other than a single unit. If it does, then you must have done something wrong. Identify the weak part of your wrapping job and there, take the plastic out and fold it under the edge of another wrap on the side of the pallet. Put another layer of plastic and stretch well. That will prevent your wrapping from coming undone.
