Patio doors are wonderful for letting in the light from outside and affording pleasant views of the outdoors, and patio door blinds can be a great way to dress them up. Many people have the kind of patio doors that are almost all window, such as in sliding glass doors. Other kinds of doors for the patio would be French doors that are almost all window, or doors that are about half window. For many people, curtains are often what they use to close these door windows off from the outside, whether for privacy or to block out the sun. Sometimes, however, blinds can be a good decorating choice for patio doors.

When you are looking for patio door blinds, you will find that there are a lot to choose from. This is a good thing, but the task of choosing can be a bit daunting. There are standard slatted blinds that go up and down, Roman shades that are all one accordion-style piece, and slatted vertical blinds that tend to hang freely on the bottom. All of these types of patio door blinds can be made of different materials, and of course they can come in a wide variety of colors. What you want to do before you go shopping for patio door blinds is take a good look at the dcor around your patio doors. Imagine different types of blinds there, in different materials and colors. This could give you a general idea of what to look for.

Once you have chosen and installed your patio door blinds, you want to make sure that you take good care of your investment. Dust them at least every other day, and clean them thoroughly about once a week. What you use to clean your blinds will depend on the material from which they are made. Vinyl blinds can be easily cleaned with glass cleaner or an all-purpose cleaner. As long as the cleaner isn't too abrasive, the blinds should keep their shine for a long time. With wooden blinds you will want to use a good wood cleaner and polish. Something with conditioning oil would be ideal. Make sure that your vinyl blinds aren't getting bent, as they can develop unsightly kinks.

The advantages of having patio door blinds are obvious. In the summer they can help keep out the hot sun; at other times they can simply keep people from seeing into your home. Though their functional uses are obvious, there is no reason why they shouldn't be decorative as well. From the outside as well as the inside, you want your blinds to look nice. Choose well and take care of them, and you should be happy with them for a long time.
