There are some basic personal skills that can help you a lot when you get in touch with other people. 1. Understand the differences There is not one person similar with another. Simply, everybody has her or his own personality that is defined in different way. Watch a little the people around you, study their language, verbal and non verbal, the intonation of their voice. You can learn a lot by listening in the right way. This will give you the key when you want to talk to them and win them on your part. Avoid using too much intimacy with a person you just met. Instead, take the time to know a little about that person and you will be successful in your communication enterprise. 2. Be clear in your words and ideas Use clear ideas and words when you express them during a conversation. If you want to make things reach the person you are talking to, find a way so that your sentences are clear, straightforward and to the point. You will be listened, there is no doubt. 3. Complain with style Everybody has certain needs and it is important to express them so the others know about them. You just cannot expect that your needs can be guessed by your partner, for instance. When you express your needs, because you want them to be heard and fulfilled, avoid being too assertive. Assertiveness can be perceived as a sign of aggression by other people and some more delicate situation require you to behave more wisely and know how to ask for things. 4. Feedback is the communication purpose It can be a great art to determine positive feedback from your counterparts in a conversation. This is an essential skill, especially when it comes to business relationships. A model of great technique for obtaining feedback consists of a sincere compliment, a practical suggestion on a specific matter and a sincere praise. Truth is not as inflexible as you see it, so try to wrap your communication technique in such a way that you get what you want from the others. 5. Put your “fingerprint” on the other’s actions You may have seen influential people that determined other to think and act like they wanted. Even by using the most simple methods, like greeting someone with a smile on your face, can change the mood of a person and can modify the person’s behavior in your advantage. 6. Learn how to dig up conflicts and deal with them This is a very important personal skill. Your children, your employees may have something to hide and you must develop the art of dealing with them. It is a touchy subject as people hide those things because they are afraid or ashamed of them, so bringing them up to the surface can be a painful experience. You must prove patience and understanding to determine the others to open up so you can solve the conflict. 7. Learn to delegate If you always try to make all the things by yourself you will soon find yourself buried in work. Try to teach others what you know and use them to fulfill your work. It is the easiest way to grow your business or to have success in other fields. 8. Learn how to let go Sometimes, things do not simply work out and you need to learn how to let go. It may be about a situation that it hinders you from seeing a solution or about the fact that you cannot make yourself clear to the others. Try to convince them of the importance of the things that they do even if this means to take them outside your sphere of influence. These personal skills are important to handle because they can bring the best from any situation. It is important to know what you are good for and to learn how to teach others, too, about their skills.
