PhotoDerm Hair Removal -- Superior to Lasers, Waxing or Electrolysis

Unwanted hair can be embarrassing. If you have been givingyourself waxing treatments or going for electrolysis, you know what an endlesstask it is to keep your skin smooth and free of unsightly hair. Waxing does notprevent regrowth and electrolysis targets only one hair at a time. After enoughtreatments it does disable each hair follicle, but it takes a lot of time.

What is the PhotoDerm System?

It is a system that can treat skin problems and removeunwanted hair. It has a multi-wavelength light source and a variety of filters.Two different wavelengths are used for these two types of treatment.

PhotoDerm can remove unwanted hair from any part of thebody. The light and heat are absorbed by the pigment in your hair, and thisdestroys the hair follicle. It will then produce no more hairs. The light iswhat is called Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). Each pulse is so brief that it doesnot burn the skin, although you can feel it as a quick sting. Most people needno anesthetic, but if you would like a numbing cream applied before treatment,that can be done.

Hair grows in cycles. Not all hairs in any one body part arein the same cycle phase at the same time. Some are in the Growth phase, some inthe Transition phase, and some are in the Resting phase. Only hairs in theGrowth phase will respond to a Photoderm treatment. That means that typically,three or more treatments are needed to target all the hairs in a given area.

Hairs may regrow but will be thinner individually andsparser in the area. With a few more treatments they will cease regrowing.

In Comparison to Laser Hair Removal

The PhotoDerm system does not use lasers. Laser hair removalis done with a single wavelength and is therefore less comprehensive in itseffectiveness. It works best on darkly pigmented hair growing on fair skin. ThePhotoDerm hairremoval system can be customized, using the particular wavelength whichwill give the best results on your particular coloration. However, it does notwork well on hair growing in dark skin, especially if the hair islight-colored. So far there is no hair removal system that is effective in thisscenario.

Another benefit of PhotoDerm hair removal is that it isrelatively painless and does not risk the skin burns which a laser may cause.It gives permanent hair removal with no scarring or discoloration.
