Porsche Vs Ferrari - Who's Got The Speed?

Porsche Vs Ferrari - here you get the German and the Italian side of the sports car. It's interesting to see the different interpretations of what a sports car should be but the big question is always who's got the speed?

One thing is for certain. They share a few characteristics. Interestingly both were companies with more than 50 years in the industry, both were quick to hone into racing, both had excellent styling and both had speed.

Ferrari owners believe they own the best car and that their cars are special but then again Porsche owners think they own the best car and that their cars are special. So who's right? Let's start by comparing the two. Here's some interesting information that Sportscar Guides collected that might help you decide who's the best.

Let's start by comparing the 1982 Porsche 944 and the Ferrari 308

The Porsche 944 comes with a 2.4 L inline 4 engine with 163 bhp and 151 lb ft torque. It will do 0 to 60 seconds in 7.2 seconds with a top speed of 137 mph.

The Ferrari 308 comes with a 2.9 L V8 engine with 240 bhp and 210 lb ft torque. It will do 0 to 60 seconds in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 145 mph.

It actually isn't really fair comparing these two cars because they really are like night and day. I mean how can you compare a 4 cylinder to a V8 but you can quickly see that the Porsche holds its own pretty darn well.

The next comparison is between the 1983 Porsche 928 and the Ferrari 400

The Porsche 928 comes with a V8 4.664 L engine with 310 bhp and 295 lb ft torque. It will do 0 to 60 seconds in less than 6.4 seconds with a top speed of 158 mph.

The Ferrari 308 comes with a V12 4.823 L engine with 315 bhp and 210 lb ft torque. It will do 0 to 60 seconds in less than 8 seconds with a top speed of 149 mph.

The Porsche 928 wins hands down when it comes to speed and it will easily take care of the Ferrari in this class.

The next comparison is between the 1983 Porsche 928 and the Ferrari Mondial

The Porsche 928 comes with a V8 4.664 L engine with 310 bhp and 295 lb ft torque. It will do 0 to 60 seconds in less than 6.4 seconds with a top speed of 158 mph.

The Ferrari Mondial QV comes with a V8 2.926 L engine with 240 bhp and 192 lb ft torque. It will do 0 to 60 seconds in less than 7.6 seconds with a top speed of 149 mph.

The Porsche engine is much bigger than the Mondial's so it is very easy to conclude that the Porsche would win this race hands down. The Ferrari Mondial is very inferior to the Porsche.

There are plenty of other Porsches and Ferraris we could compare but it quickly becomes evident that the Porsche Vs Ferrari speed test is very dependent on which cars you compare. So for now why not let the Ferrari owners believe they rock and the Porsche owners believe they rock. What the heck why can't both be right?
