Postpartum Hair Loss: Does having a baby mean no hair for you?
|
Is there anything you can do to prevent postpartum hair loss? No. Many products claim to help reduce hair loss but few have been able to successfully keep hair from falling out. The drugs used to slow hair loss are not considered good for any pregnant mother. Side effects can be extremely harmful to the unborn child and no doctor will prescribe hair growing medication for you. Just take into consideration that time will heal and soon you will have your lovely locks back. You may want to consider a shorter hair cut as longer haired moms will have more noticeable hair loss than those with shorter hair. Besides, shorter hair makes wash and go styles much easier on a new mom. If you have long hair, be aware that hair can be dangerous around a newly born infant. Hairs have been known to wrap around a baby's fingers and toes, cutting off the circulation. Take care to check your baby occasionally for any looped hairs. Some moms say that adding oils to your hair reduce any hair loss. Nut oil can stimulate growth and increase circulation. Eating well and taking vitamin B is also known to help. Stress will only increase hair loss, so take it easy and avoid stressful situations when pregnant. Also, avoid the chemicals found in swimming pools as this will just damage your hair. Use purified or bottled water to rinse your hair and try not to shampoo to often. Shampooing can actually strip your hair of it's natural protective oils, making it easier for your hair to break. Many have found natural oils work best in treating hair loss including, carrot, sage, lavender, thyme and rosemary. If you are trying to prevent hair loss, try cypress, lemon, birch, thyme, yarrow, sage, chamomile, palma rosa, clary sage and calendula. There are some vegetable oils used for treating postpartum hair loss. Jojoba, evening primrose and boarge seed are a few. Hair loss after having a baby can last up to 3 months. Seeing hair falling out when your baby is already 3 months old can be alarming, but remember this is normal. Not all new mothers will experience hair loss, but for those that do, it can be a scary thing. Some moms believe that hair loss is caused by breast feeding but this is not true. There is no need to be concerned unless you are still losing an unusual amount of hair after one year of giving birth. If this is so, see your physician. Hair loss can be caused by several things, including stress. Having your doctor diagnose the cause will help you find the solution. About The Author: Ella Morgan is a publisher of ArticleClick.com.
