Preparing Quick Meals For Your Busy Family

When you’re constantly on the go you hardly have time to think about what you’re wearing that day, or what’s on the to-do list for the evening, or what chores have to be done before you leave the house. You certainly don’t have time to always be worrying about what’s for dinner that night, or what you’re going to have over the weekend. What if you’re family has multiple activities going on that night which will prevent you from being able to sit down together to have dinner?

You’ll want to be able to prepare something in a short period of time. Here are some quick meals that will help you save time and also help you keep your sanity when you’re on the go and you don’t have a lot of time to worry about dinner.

One meal that is very simple to throw together in the morning before work and leave alone until you all can find time to eat that night is the classic roast. The roast is easy to prepare because all you have to do is place the thawed roast in the crock pot or slow cooker, add some potatoes and carrots, and any other vegetables, and then let it cook on low heat until you get home that night. This dish can then be easily served to one or more people at random times, which means you don’t all have to be there at the same time in order to eat. One word of advice with the vegetables is that if you plan on adding soft vegetables like zucchini, squash, or tomatoes, you may want to add them a couple hours before the roast is done. If you let them cook all day, they may become soggy.

Another great meal that is easy to prepare is ring bologna and sour kraut with potatoes. If you love this delicious little German dish, then you’ll definitely want to keep this meal at the top of your list of quick fix meals. You can prepare this meal the same way as the roast mentioned earlier. Simply throw all of the ingredients (ring bologna, sour kraut, potatoes) into the crock pot and let them cook all day on a low heat setting. When you get home, you’ll have a great meal waiting for you to server immediately.

Beef stew is another excellent meal that you can prepare ahead of time and have ready when you get home from work. Simply add your beef (shredded or chunked), some water with beef broth, vegetables, and a little seasoning for taste, and let it cook on a low heat while you are away at work our wherever it is you need to go. When you get home you’ll have a great hot stew waiting to be served to you and your family.

Chicken is quite possibly one of the easiest quick meals to make and can be prepared fairly quickly just like the others that have been mentioned. As always, be sure to wash the chicken thoroughly in order to prevent any bacteria from remaining on the chicken when it is cooked. The heat from the cooking process will get rid of any bacteria, but you can never be too safe especially when it comes to your family. Place the chicken and any vegetables in the crock pot with a little water and some chicken broth and allow it to cook throughout the day on low heat. When you get home, season to taste and serve. You’ll have a wonderful meal with chicken that will fall of the bones when you server it.

These are just a few examples of hot meals that are easy to prepare and can be ready by the time you get home. There are many more that can be added to the list, you just need to use your imagination as anything is possible when it comes to cooking. You’ll find that you learn the best from experience. Hopefully you too will come up with some great ideas for meals that will save you time and your sanity.
