Prevent Snoring - Dealing with a Frustrating Problem

There are some people who have such a problem with making too much noise while they sleep that they would do just about anything to prevent snoring. Though it sometimes doesn't bother the snorer, it can very much bother anyone that might be sleeping with them, and this can actually be an embarrassing problem. When a person's spouse finally has to make the drastic decision to sleep in another room every night, then they both know that snoring has become a problem that needs to be dealt with. But what can you do to prevent snoring? There are many possible preventions; some that work quite well.

One common reason for snoring is being overweight. Too much fat around the neck area can interfere with the flow of air through the trachea when sleeping, causing the air to vibrate too much when a person breathes. This vibration can be very noisy. Not gaining too much weight in the first place or losing weight if you need to can go a long way in helping you prevent snoring. When snoring is not caused by being overweight, then you need to look for the other cause. A deviated septum, inflamed tonsils or adenoids, chronic sinus problems; these can all cause snoring. There are ways to prevent snoring in these cases, too.

One of the best products to come out on the market lately to help prevent snoring is a strip that goes across both nostrils and the bridge of the nose. It attaches to the skin with an adhesive, and when placed in the right spot on the nose it gently opens the air passages. Though it doesn't open them up very much, it usually can open them enough to stop the snoring from happening during the night. Since this is such a natural remedy that can't possibly have any side effects other than if you were allergic to the adhesive, many people really seem to like them.

When you want to prevent snoring you get frustrated when nothing works. In some of the worst snoring cases, even the breath strips won't work. In this case, you may want to seek the advice of a doctor. Sometimes surgery may be warranted, as snoring can often be dangerous to your health. If you are waking yourself up many times during the night due to your own snoring, this means that you aren't getting enough sleep. Snoring can also be part of sleep apnea, which is where the snorer actually stops breathing at times during the night. This is a serious problem that must be addressed. Talk to your doctor if you can't find a way to stop your snoring, and he should be able to help.
