First, make sure that you have the owner's manual handy, as well as the right tools to start the work on your projection TV.
In order to discover which problem needs to be addressed, read the TV troubleshooting guide and follow the instructions presented there.
If the troubleshooting guide did not manage to solve the problem, you need to diagnose your TV. Check for information on specialized websites, or on specialized forums, where people that know how to handle such problems already know better solution. You can always search for a good manual in libraries and bookstores.
The TV manual will come very handy as this is where the diagram containing the TV circuits is presented. If you do not have a manual, you can obtain one by asking a retailer that has such TVs as your own in their store for a copy.
As mentioned before, you will need to have the right tools at your disposal. A Phillips head and a flathead screwdriver are needed, so you can remove the back shell of your TV. To test the circuits, a digital multimeter is very useful.
Many projection TVs have common problems. These are the first to start with when making your evaluation. For instance, a blurred picture can be a sign that a loose connection exists somewhere, so move the coax cable from the box or the antenna to see how the TV reacts. For blotches of color appearing on the screen, you can suspect that your TV is magnetized. With a magnetic coil moved on the screen, see when the magnet loses contact when you get further from the screen, making the same movements. Usually, if this is the problem, the color blotches will disappear. Also, if the TV shuts down out of the blue, the cause may be overheating. Try to remove all objects that emit heat from the proximity of the TV, to see if the problem is remedied. When the speaker emits static, you will need to replace it.
Get on with your projection TV repair, by removing the power cord from the outlet and disconnecting any devices plugged with your TV. Put the TV with the screen on a soft surface.
Now, with the screwdriver, take the screws out of the back shell, so you can remove it with ease.
Take a look at the manual and search for the piece that has to be repaired.
After the job is done, you will just have to put the back shell back as it was and then fasten it with the screws.
For making the test, plug the TV back on and see the results. If the TV is still not working, then you will need to take it to a repair shop.
Here are some tips that will help you perform better:- to avoid the risk of electrocution and breathing fumes, do this in a dry and well ventilated room;- check online resources for guiding manuals especially made for your TV type;- if you do not have a clue about how to repair a TV, it is best to address the issue to a professional and avoid doing it yourself;- rubber gloves are part of the protection equipment as TV circuits can contain electrical charges, even after the power cord was removed from the electrical outlet.
