Purse Blanks

I love crafts. I bought a big lot of purse blanks at my local craft store. I decided that I would make kits to sell that included one of the purse blanks and a cross stitch design for an heirloom rose.

I visited an heirloom rose nursery in Oregon and took my digital cameral. I took a lot of photos of so many gorgeous roses. My experiment with my purse blanks actually started with the roses in my backyard.

When I was ready to start my project, I downloaded the photos from my camera onto my computer. I have Cross Stitch Software from DPSoftware on my computer. I used the photo of the rose from my backyard and made a design to stitch onto one of my purse blanks.

I decided that if I was going to sell my kits with the purse blanks, I needed to stitch at least ten different roses. I carried the purse that I made with the design of the rose from my back yard for several months.

I was really hoping that the photos I took in Oregon would look good. I spent a lot of time just wandering around their facility. I thought about my purse blanks and how they were just the canvas for my art.

The first heirloom rose that I chose to make a design for was the St. Christopher. This is a beautiful rose that has an intense deep yellow color. I knew that it would look stunning stitched onto one of my purse blanks.

I decided that I wanted to make example kits with a finished product with it for a display table. I have always loved roses and I have always had an affinity for crafting. The purse blanks have offered me an opportunity to combine both passions.

I made a design for a cross stitch based on a photo I took of an Iceberg rose. This rose is a climber and has a lot of repeat blooms. I used a dark green background on one of the purse blanks to showcase the beautiful white blooms.

I enjoyed a rose called Baby Love that didn't look a lot like roses I am familiar with. The purse blanks are such a good canvas for this type of art. The bounty of rich, buttercup yellow, single flowers have eye catching golden centers.

The purse blanks have enough space for me to put several roses on at once. When I did the design for the Iceberg rose, I used about twenty five flowers. For the Baby Love design, I used only five flowers.

I had fun with the photo I took of the Queen Nefertiti. I enlarged the photo so that the entire design for the purse blanks was one flower. This rose has such an old fashioned feel. The color palate reminded me of a sunset.
