RV Batteries - Make Them Last Longer

You can use your RV batteries for a lot more time than you can imagine, just if you follow some simple tips. A battery is used, maintained, discharged and charged again in a certain manner by every user. If you know how to do all these in the proper manner, you will end up having a battery with a lifespan that will really pay for its initial cost.

RV batteries can be discharged to 50% daily, then they are cycled again. If you manage to keep the discharge value to 80%, you will notice how much more time you can use your batteries than before. The reason for this is simple. If the battery is discharged more, it will take more to charge it again, but if you manage to keep the process simple, then you will have a long lasting battery.

RV batteries have something that is called amp hour rating. When this value is little, you will need to keep your batteries plugged most of the time. But, with a high value amp hour rating, you will be able to use your RV a lot, and even use it for longer trips without fearing that the batteries will discharge when you least expect it.

Here is a tip on how to recognize a longer lasting battery. These RV batteries have a certain categorization, based on their size. There are 24, 27 and 31 RV batteries and you should know that the larger the number, the bigger the amp hour rating will be. If you have reasons to stick to batteries of a smaller size, there is a solution to make them last longer when you are dry camping. You need to buy more of them and use them in parallel, for more hours of usage.

Most people use 12-volt batteries, which are the most common ones. If you want a change in that, you can always use 6-volt golf cart batteries. By wiring them in series, you can produce more voltage hours but without increasing the voltage. (Parallel wiring does the opposite, which means more amp hours, for the same voltage). You can use both types of wiring and you can choose a pattern that can really satisfy your need for voltage and amp hours, according to your needs.
