Red Moles - How to Tell If Theyre Harmless

Red moles are normal and most people have at least a few. The harmless types of moles are generally of a single color, are small, and do not have distinct borders around them. They can be found on most any part of the body, but especially on the arms, legs, face, or neck.

Their normal lifespan is about 50 years. Those born with a red mole known as a port-wine stain may be permanent, though, and parents may want to first discuss the risks of having them surgically removed, especially if the patient is very young.

Morphology

A harmless red mole should not have other colors in it, and if it doesnt grow over the years or develop a suspicious-looking oval or round border, then theres little to worry about. However, if red moles are exposed to the sun regularly or for extended periods, they may increase in size and could develop into a melanoma.

A melanoma should not be taken lightly as it is said to be the most dangerous form of skin cancer. It starts from melanocytes skin cells that produce melanin, the pigment responsible for our skin color. When our skin is exposed to too much ultraviolet light which may come from sunlight or from tanning booths the melanocytes may develop abnormally and morph into melanomas.

Early detection of danger signs

You should always be wary of any changes in the appearance of your red moles. The probability of getting melanoma increases as one grows older, and this is why you should also avoid staying under the sun for too long when youre older.

If your red moles are small and do not change in size over the years, then it is advisable to leave them alone. Some people, however, choose to have them removed for cosmetic purposes, and this is understandable especially for those whose red moles prominently appear on the face.

There have been many substances introduced to the market which claim to be able to remove moles without the need for surgery or without the risk of retaining scars or damaging the underlying tissue.

One such solution is called Nevi No More - a medicated soap that claims to effectively remove red moles and impair the growth of melanoma cells. When searching for mole removers, make sure that the substances are not just all-natural, but also organic. When a medication is touted as organic, this means it comes from ingredients not tainted with fertilizers or pesticides.

This is important as skin is highly sensitive, and mole removers that contain harmful substances may cause permanent damage. Care must be taken, then, when using removers for red moles and other birthmarks, and one should always get a clearance from their physician before using such products.
