Remedies For Catarrh

What is named catarrh is a condition that affects the nose, by changing the composition of the mucus discharge. When it gets too thick, it can become infected, and when the condition appears over a long period of time, it can be the sign or an allergy or of another serious conditions. Lets see what cause the appearance of catarrh.

Fortunately, there are many remedies for catarrh, that can be safely used by adults and children. They can be home made, or herbal based and so on. When you experience a runny nose, or a stuffy nose, or swollen sinuses, these remedies can really reduce the trouble.

During winters, the winds tend to make the air we breathe very dry. This means that even in our homes or at work, the humidity level can drop until it reaches some dangerous levels for our noses. If the mucus in the nose senses the dryness, it will not be able to function properly and it will produce more discharge to compensate for the lack of humidity. A humidifier is a must have for many homes. If you dont have one, some boiled water will do the trick, just well. Some small sessions of steam baths will contribute to your nose feeling better.

The nasal passages can be affected by catarrh. In order to let them breathe freely, you can use saline drops or a spray. Nasal irrigation is another good solution for getting rid of catarrh. By using a warm saline solution to clean the nasal passages, you can release them of the nasty discharge. Also, the mucus will be properly hydrated and you will feel better.

Here is another remedy when catarrh gets very thick and prevents the nose to breathe air properly. Take a wet cloth and heat it a little, then put it on your face, on the nose especially. After a few times, you will notice how the mucus discharge will become thinner, and you will be able to breathe more freely. A facial steamer or a steam inhaler will help just fine, as well. What happens is that the steam warms the air in the nose and the inflammation of the mucus is reduced.

There are other causes for the appearance of catarrh, such as mold, smoke, air cleaners, or dust and pollen. If you succeed in getting rid of the irritant, you will have no problem in getting back to normal.

Keeping your body properly hydrated always helps. With your membranes moist, the mucus discharge will no longer be a problem. Consumption of coffee can influence that.

If you are much used to medicated nasal sprays, it would be good if you reduced the usage. In time, you will get a bad habit and your nose will become very dry. Even your sinuses can become very dry, and you will suffer the consequences.

It is not wise to let catarrh untreated; in time, it can cause some severe health troubles.
