Removing Spots and Stains in Carpets and Rugs

Something will get spilled or a stain will appear on the carpet or rug sooner or later. Accidents will happen and we need to find a way to remove them before they set very long. The longer a spot or stain sets the harder it is to remove. There are a lot of home remedies to removing stains and spots that you can use. Be sure that you try it on a hidden area first to make sure that it doesn't remove the color from your rug or carpet. Someone is bound to get cut and bleed of course it has to drip onto the carpet. To remove the fresh blood blots as much of the moisture up as possible, by mixing 1 teaspoon of mild detergent with 1 teaspoon of white vinegar and 1 quart of warm water together as the cleaning solution. Blot the solution on and let dry. After it is dry apply some dry cleaning fluid let this dry. Now you can vacuum gently. Children will be children and sometimes they chew gum. Finding gum or candle wax on the carpet can be messy. Clean it up by hardening it with an ice cube and than it will pull right off. Dilute acid stains with baking soda mixed in water or use a club soda. Apply 10 parts water and 1 part ammonia to the stain. Mix a solution of 1 teaspoon mild detergent, 1 teaspoon white vinegar and 1 quart of warm water together to remove alcoholic beverages. Spray the spot with water immediately to dilute the stain, take a white bath towel and blot up the liquid. Spray on the solution and let it dry. Gently vacuum over when dry. To remove catsup from the rug or carpet mix, 1 cup of white vinegar and 2 cups of water. Using a sponge apply the mixture to the stain and frequently wring out the sponge to remove the catsup. When chocolate is dropped on the carpet or rug immediately scrap it off. Mix 1 teaspoon mild detergent, 1 teaspoon white vinegar and 1 quart of water together. Spray it on the spot rinse; once it has dried you can vacuum the area to stand up the nap again. Someone gets sick and vomits on the carpet immediately clean it up by blotting up as much as possible. Dilute with baking soda and water or club soda. Mix 1 part ammonia and 10 part water and apply it to the stain. Rinse well with cold water and when dry you can vacuum. To remove red wine, dilute it with white wine than clean it up. Rinse the spot with cold water and cover with table salt. Let it set about 10 minutes and vacuum up the salt. Try to remove the spot as soon as possible, as the spot or stain sets and dries it will soak into the nap making it even harder to get out.
