Many people try to travel during the off season in hopes of saving money. This is not the case if you choose to vacation here between November and February. That time of year is their monsoon season so most shops and restaurants will be closed. Also, your choice of rooms may be very limited. All boats will take you to your destination. A speed boat or a wooden fishing boat are the only ways to get to the island. A leisurely, slow moving ride is provided by the wooden fishing boat. For a faster trip, a jolting ride in the speed boat is necessary. The waters surrounding the island are crystal. All forms of marine life including sharks, sea turtles, fish and coral reefs, have their homes here. Flora Bay Divers, Perhentian Island Divers, Turtle Bay Divers, Alu Alu Divers and Watercolours are you selection for scuba diving. They are all located on beaches across the island. The small operation dive shops are Alu Alu, Turtle Bay Divers, located by Mamma's Chalet and Watercolours. The bigger operations include Flora Bay Divers and Perhentian Island Divers, by Perhentian Island Resort. Offering you protection from jellyfish, a wetsuit is suggested but not required. Snorkeling, with guided tours is available also. Taluk Pauh, Shark Poin and Tanju Basi are the spots to go to. The resorts and some restaurants have snorkeling equipment. Perhaps a trek through the jungle is more appealing. There are small paths on the island that lead from one beach to another. You will get hot, sweaty and be swatting at bugs during your trek. Maybe on the hike you will see monitor lizards. If you decide to go off the main trail, you have a chance of see the monkeys. Teluk KK, a restaurant on the southwestern end of the island offers the most common food found on the island as well as BBQ seafood. At the south beach, along the east end of the island, is Arwana Resort. Coupons are available for all meals. Fish, chicken, beef and squid are available at dinner times. Within this resort, there is also a deli restaurant. Another restaurant that offers food similar to what the villagers eat is Mamma's Restaurant, beside Mamma's Resort. Flora Bay Resort has its restaurant. Flora Bay offering chicken fried rice, fried prawns and mashed potatoes are. Offering vegetarian and seafood, and next to the dive shop, Paradise Island Resort restaurant is Watercolours. For accommodations, the best place on the island is the Tuna Bay Island Resort. The resort is located on a white sandy beach. This resort offers 24 hour water and electricity. Individually climate controlled air conditioning, wifi and in room coffee and tea service.
