Resort Wear: Vacation Shopping

One of the first things people think about when they've booked a vacation is what to wear. So, when one hears the phrase 'resort wear', they know exactly what it means. It's clothing necessary for a resort, or vacation. They vary between men, women, and children for obvious reasons but it's always good to make sure you've got yourself covered from the time you wake up to the time you go to bed.

Men

1. Polo Shirts: These are also known as tennis or golf shirts that are T-shaped with a collar and normally have two or three buttons below the collar. You'll find them in knitted cloth like cotton or even silk, wool, or synthetic fibers. These are great for that early morning breakfast you grab at the restaurant before you hit the beach. You can find them in every imagineable colour, which makes it especially easy for men to match with any pair of pants or shorts they may choose to wear.

2. Shorts: Speaking of shorts, all men should own a few pairs in a variety of colours and material to accompany them in different summer weather. For example, there are long denim shorts as well as shorter cargo shorts. Denim shorts are great as casual wear during the day, whereas cargo shorts can be dressed up with a nice shirt for the night time. There are also swim shorts that men choose to wear on a hot day shold they choose to go for a quick cooling swim.

3. Shoe Wear: Although men don't seem to care about shoes as much as women do, every man needs those perfect pair of shoes that could be worn to any resort whether it's a beach resort or a golf club resort. For example, a pair of casual sandals are great for during the day when you know you're going to be walking around, doing some shopping or sight-seeing whereas a pair of dockers (otherwise known as "boat shoes") are good for more upscale-occasioned resorts or for attending those night-time entertainment shows.

Women

1. Evening Wear: Speaking of those night-time entertainment shows, evening dresses are a great way to dress up at a resort. Whether it's a simple, classic black dress or something more stylish and colourful, a dress is great for warmer weather during the summer months. Sometimes, however, you can feel the summer breeze at night that may leave you feeling chilly at times. Well, what's great about a dress is that you can purchase a shawl to throw on top to keep you warm enough for the rest of your evening.

2. Bathing Suit Wrap/ Sarong: Whether they're solid colours, patterned, or floral-printed, sarongs are a great way to cover yourself when you're done swimming and want to go to the restaurant to grab a refreshing drink without having to change into clothes. Some women may even choose to swim in their wraps if it's the right material, or they may even choose to simply sit in it and tan on the beach. Either way, it's something every woman should own if she's making a trip to a hot, tropical place.

3. Skirts: Skirts can be dressed up or dressed down depending on the colour, material, and occasion. You can have a great denim skirt for a day of shopping, or a nice, long flowy skirt for a night out on the town, but either way every woman should have at least one or two pairs of skirts in the suitcase that they pack. Why? Well it's simple. It's easy to slip on. Remember that sunburn you got when you spent the whole day outside, and when it came time to getting dressed to go out, it hurt you so much to put on that dress? Well skirts allow you to get dressed more easier, and less painfully. You just step in it, and slip it on! Trust me, every woman needs to invest in a nice skirt.

Children

1. Hats: Caps, bucket hats, and sun hats are all good alternatives for protecting your children from the strong UV rays in the summer. Most resorts do have shops where you can buy hats, but they're normally not very attractive and are more expensive. By taking your child shopping with you to choose their favourite hat, one that they would actually wear on a hot day, you're saving yourself the hassle of chasing after them at the resort to make sure they're keeping their hats on. And besides, hats on children not only protect them from the sun, but is also a great accessory for those bad hair days after a long day of swimming.

2. Water shoes: No matter how clean the floor at the beach or resort may appear, there's no telling what's been on that floor. Water shoes allow your children to protect their feet from infections while having fun. They're as comfortable as running shoes, except they are rubber-soled and quickly drains water from your child's feet. So, go ahead. Let them run around the resort and have fun while doing it, at least you'll know they won't be taking a trip to the local hospital to get rid of an infection they picked up.

3. Comfortable, All-Day Wear: This is simple and obvious. T-shirts and shorts. Children don't really care about style or colour, as much as they don't care whether or not their clothes get dirty. Anything simple and comfortable that they can last all day in without bugging you about it being to warm for them will suffice. Whether it's something for the beach or something for the restaurant, you'll enjoy your vacation more if you don't have to worry about your children nagging about their uncomfortable clothes.

So you see, almost anything can be considered resort wear if it's right for the occasion. A simple pair of sandals for the beach or a dressed up outfit for the evening dinner will come into handy when you least expect it. There are other things you can add to this list that are not considered under the "apparrel" category such as sunscreen, after-bite medicine, and pain relievers. However, these are the most basic things that you should make sure to include in your suitcase before taking off. Make your vacation a lot simpler by making sure that you have everything you think you might need because after all, you're on vacation!
