Safelists: Safelist Owner's Gold Mine!

You’ve probably been sent a few emails advertising them. And the numbers are huge, promising anything from 100 000 to more than 3 million people to send emails!

And if you’re thinking, why would such a situation exist, where so many people are willing to receive mails from you? It’s simple – they may receive them, but they never open them. When I was a newbie, I joined all the safelists in town, and sent my mails religiously. But I never seemed to make any sales.

Why?

When you create a safelist account, you provide two email addresses – a list address, and a contact address. The list address is usually, if you’re clever, a throwaway address. That is, it’s not an address where people actually read the emails – they simply delete them all, from remote. That’s why that address is there – the purpose of a safelist is to SEND emails, not to receive them. But it’s pointless because nobody is reading them – except newbies who don’t understand this.

The other emails that get opened in this case are the ones sent by ‘admin’, the owners of the safelist, who have your contact address, and you’re the one opening them, and in some cases, safelist owners sell mailings to contact addresses. Those may get opened.

So everybody who is on these lists knows that they will be receiving emails from other members. This is possible because that is one of the conditions of their “safe list” membership. And those who join these lists are willing to agree to this condition because they themselves would want to send out their own commercial emails to the others on the list.

The result: everyone is sending emails to each other but no one is reading them!
So the only people who profit from safelists are the safelist owners.

There is a way to get your emails opened in a safelist, though – put ‘confirm’ or ‘validate’ in your subject heading. Why? Because every newbie has to confirm their list address when they first set up their account, and they need to go and open those emails and click on a link…

If you want to make money from Safelists, either set up your own, or use shady tactics.

The best way is to start your own mailing list and build it with opt-in subscribers, no matter how tempting safe lists can be or how many members there are.
