Set The Date For Achieving Those Monthly Goals

Success is defined by how well you achieve your goals whether they are personal or professional. If you run a home based business goal setting is extremely important to ensure you stay focused and on track. The first step to success is to set the date for achieving those monthly goals.

These days most home based businesses are web based so your monthly goals might include starting another web site, increasing the traffic on your site by 20%, increasing your sales by 10%, or a host of other goals. If you put your goals to paper you are much more likely to achieve them. Then as you complete each goal you can remove them from your list.

To begin your goal setting you need a daily to do list. You should make the following days up at the end of the current day. If you have items left over from the current day then move them forward. Doing this will help keep you focused and avoid feelings of being overwhelmed by you mounting task list. It will also help you decide what you need to do next keeping things moving smoothly.

You also need to have a weekly goal sheet that you can review at the end of the week to decide what projects are now completed, which have moved to a new stage, and which you need to move forward because you didn’t get to them. You can also include any invoicing, bank deposits you need to make, or supplies you need to pick up on this list.

Your monthly goals should include all the tasks you need to accomplish on a monthly basis. This might include bank recons, projects that must be completed by the end of the month, mailings that need to be done. Monthly goals will also include future monthly goals.

So for example let’s say you’ve decided that by May month end you want to have added an additional 10 web sites to your collection. You would mark this goal for the end of May but break it down into doable chunks on a weekly or daily basis.

Every three months you need to review the goals you’ve set and analyze what you have achieved. This will tell you if things are progressing on track or if you perhaps need to make some adjustments. Perhaps those 10 web sites you were planning to happen didn’t happen because you simply don’t have enough time. You might modify this goal to say you would have 10 web sites up by July instead.

Remember goals aren’t written in stone. They can be adjusted according to need. The key to successful goals is taking the time to set them and plan for their completion in the first place. This keeps you focused on what you must achieve.

You might even color code your goals in your planner. You could choose your color coding by importance of completion, time required, or perhaps personal and professional. You decide your own color coding according to what will meet your needs.

If you want proof on just how important goal setting is and then creating work schedules to achieve those goals then ask any successful entrepreneur how they got to be so successful. They’ll tell you careful planning and lots of goal setting!

So the question is do you really want to be successful? Then isn’t it time you set the date for achieving those monthly goals?
