Simulated Diamonds - How To Choose The Best Lab Created Diamonds

The lab created diamonds are very much used in the jewelry industry in order to be used for creation of jewelries with simulated diamonds. Simulated diamonds have a lot of advantages. The fact that you can buy a cheaper jewelry that it is still looking gorgeous is one of them. But the customer is too often assaulted and confused by the terminology used in the jewelry industry and by the variety of options to choose from. Here are some clarifications for making this choice easier.

Gem materials: Almost all the simulated diamonds used in the jewelry industry are made of some gem materials. They are all polycrystalline on a molecular level, but the way in which the manufacturer handles the raw material leads to different designs and products. These are technical aspects related to manufacturing, cutting and polishing.

Quality variances: There are different quality variances between different simulated diamonds. They can be put in three categories that are strongly related to the quality of the material they are made of. There are high quality simulated diamonds, medium quality simulated diamonds and low quality simulated diamonds. Of course, the purpose for which they are used is important when choosing the grade of quality. For instance, some discount stores go for low quality simulated diamonds and they usually have a murky look. Other jewelers that use simulated diamonds for jewelries like those sold on the TV shopping channels, which are usually made of sterling silver or gold plated silver, go for medium quality. And, finally, the more expensive jewelries made of solid 14K gold or platinum are made with high quality simulated diamonds.

Pricing: The price is strongly related with the quality of the stones. Costume jewelry makers buy low grade gems and then they sell them with about $15 an item. The medium quality simulated diamonds are sold for about $100 per item. Low and medium quality stones are easily identified as not being the same with the mined diamond, which is why their cost is low. But those with a high grade of quality are usually fine pieces of art that can be distinguished from the mined diamonds only by using jewelers' equipment. That is why they are more expensive and they are sold for $80-$100 per carat only for the gemstone. If they cost more than $100 per carat, then you should know that they cannot be of a higher quality than those sold for a little less under $100.

Recommendations: There is a wide range of choices if you want to buy a jewelry made with simulated diamonds. If you want to use them for your child's costume, go for the best deals; try Wal-Mart, where you can find them at $5 per item on the clearance rack. If you want a medium quality piece of jewelry, made of sterling silver and simulated diamonds, do not expect to make people believe that what you wear on your finger is real diamonds. There are also some disadvantages here. Your finger may turn green or black because of a reaction with the copper alloy in the sterling silver, while with gold plated jewelries, the aspect will lose consistency when the thin plate of gold will become chipped off around the edges. For the best effect, go for 14K solid gold or platinum jewelries. Your diamonds will pass as mined diamonds and you will have, indeed, a fine piece of jewelry on your finger without ruining your budget.
