Skin Treatment with Aromatherapy

Originating over sixty centuries ago, aromatherapy is an ancient science that deals with the application of essential oils drawn from such sources as resins, herbs, trees and flowers. These oils contain curative and cleansing qualities and in addition are pleasant smelling and mood-elevating. The modern day life many of us lead - busy work schedules, lack of healthy exercise, fast food diets and excessive pollution - have an adverse affect on our physical and mental health. Today, many people are reverting back to traditional remedies to regain balance in their lives.

Aromatherapy is now being used to help with skin care and other great remedies. While practicing aromatherapy skin care the basic thing to be borne in mind is never to apply essential oils to any part of skin without diluting, even while inhaling. The following aromatherapy skin care exercises will be helpful for cleansing and cellular renewal of skin. Mix a teaspoonful of milk or honey and 3 to 5 drops of essential oil with a pint of hot water for deep cleansing of facial skin. Put the hot mixture into a stainless steel bowl, and cover your head with a towel. Lean over the bowl and inhale the steam. This process is often called a "Facial Steam." Along with deep-cleaning the skin on your face, inhaling the steam in this fashion has a soothing effect.

To keep your skin tone healthy, help it stay fresh and hydrated, try 'Facial Masque', an aromatherapy skin care treatment. For this process, mix moistened clay, honey, mashed avocado or egg white with 2-3 drops of essential oils. This compound is applied to a slightly moistened face. Once the masque begins to dry and harden (ten to fifteen mins) wash the masque off completely with lukewarm water.

Ten drops of essential oil blend mixed with a carrier oil may be used in order to nourish and heal facial skin. Some oils that are frequently utilized, based on skin type, are jojoba, frankincense and German chamomile. One should apply this blend to the areas that need it the most. This technique is referred to as "Facial Oil Blend".

"Skin Brushing" is a different aromatherapy skin care technique designed to maintain the freshness of the skin and boost the lymphatic function. Mix a tablespoon of honey with a drop of essential oil and apply with a natural bristle brush.

When essential oils are carefully selected and not overused, they can perform wonders on the body and spirit, even if other methods have failed. Aromatherapy has even been used successfully for treating traumatic cases. Imitation "essential oils" loaded with chemicals are widely available on the open market so it is important to assess the quality of the ingredients before making a purchase.
