Some processes to give a gemstone beautiful look



Process of Dyeing

- Dyeing of gemstones is the most generally established and customary process.

- Dyeing colors are not natural but, dyeing of certain gems such as, lapis lazuli, jade, turquoise and coral are comparatively less preferred.

- Dyeing is usually done to cover the reduced quality of the gemstone.

- The process of dyeing a gemstone is rather cheap and valuable which makes it quite important and cost worthy.

Process of Surface Coating

- The process of coating is used for the purpose of polishing and finishing of the gemstone,. This process gives notable and great look to a gemstome.

- This process is rarely used on Diamonds, but when used, spontaneously give it a prominence and color.

Process of Heating

- Heating is used to change the outlook of gemstones as to darken, lighten, brighten, to bring about coloring, précising etc.

- Some of the heated and treated gemstones available are Tanzanite, Aquamarine, Pink Topaz, Citrine, Sapphires, Rubies, Amethyst, Tourmaline minerals, Blue and colorless Zircon.

- Normally There is no difference between non-heated gemstone and heated gemstones.

Process of Oiling

- The process of oiling is used for emerald normally and universally. This is because of the fact that right after emeralds are brought out of the mines, they are treated with plenty of oil. Emerald cutters use oil as lubricants during cutting process. This oil, which is colorless in nature, reaches into the deep cracks of the emerald and makes these cracks less identifiable. That is why oil is applied into the slits of a stone, thus completing the sophistication process.

Process of Surface diffusion

- This process of Surface Diffusion involves saturating the outside surface of the gemstone in excessive heat. It is typically used on Sapphire gemstones.

- At high very high temperature some chemicals are applied onto the outer surface of the gemstone. This treatment brings about better color and beauty.

Process of pores filling

- Process of pores filling is used on gemstones and some foreign materials are put into hollow spaces of the gemstone. Foreign materials such as glass, plastic and some others are used to fill the holes & cracks on the gemstones surface.

- This process is commonly used on rubies. This process is so beautifully applied and such a finishing is done that only after close inspection these fillings can be recognized.

- This process is not preferred as it is often used to cheat the customers.
