Some questions to ask at Graduate Jobs interviews

So its a bit of a loaded Graduate Jobs interview question. If for example the candidate then asks a load of questions about the salary and potential bonuses, and potential increases, etc. the panel will certainly have learned what his/her principle motivation is.

If they are unprepared for it, most candidates would be likely to find this a difficult question to deal with. Indeed, I reckon most would rather not be asked it in the first place. But you don't get Graduate Jobs without graduate interviews, and I'm afraid this is a normal part of the interview "game".

Bearing in mind my explanation of the probable reasons for this question being asked in the first place, you would not be surprised to learn that I also think that the very last thing that your Graduate Jobs interview panel wants to hear would be "no thanks, I don't have any questions".

So, the advice is ... "be prepared" for this possible question at your Graduate Jobs interviews, plan ahead and have a few questions ready. Then, comes the big moment, ask a few questions even it it means asking to be told about matters that you already know about. Probably two or three questions would be quite sufficient.

Here are some suggestions for you to consider as part of your preparation ...

If you would be working in a team, or department, ask about the other people in the team. How many are there, and do they have any special responsibilities.

If this Graduate Jobs vacancy was caused by "expansion" ask about any future growth plans

If the vacancy was not caused by "expansion", ask how/why it became vacant.

If the vacancy was caused because of someone's "unsatisfactory performance" in that Graduate Jobs position, ask how/why their performance was unsatisfactory

Ask about the benchmarks against which your own performance would be assessed.

Ask about the mechanisms and frequencies of appraisals and performance reviews for this post ... and ask whether favourable assessments would lead to bonuses or salary increases.

Ask whether Graduate Jobs promotions might be possible within the company, either through its existing structure or through possible future development

You could ask whether the company engaged in any social activity. For example, whether it has a sports/social club, or it ever held organised events in this direction.

You could also ask questions that, when answered, would give you the opportunity to provide further information of your own.

For example ...
You could ask how soon they would want their new Graduate Jobs employee(s) to start. This would give you the opportunity to explain how much notice you would need to give to your present employer.

You could ask if they needed any more information ... say, about your present job, or perhaps about who would be providing your references. This could give you a lead in all sorts of directions.
So, there you are, at your next Graduate Jobs interview you should have plenty to choose from.
