Spirituality Information: Natural Consequences vs. Man Made Consequences
|
Natural consequences are internal and are experienced from the inside. This form of consequence allows us to see for ourselves that something in our experience did not work and it didn't produce the result that we intended. We can observe that our society uses man-made consequences, in the form of punishment, for the intention of behavior modification. We observe that we do not seem to learn very effectively by this form of consequence because we see this punishment as something that somebody else is doing to us. Natural consequences are easier to learn from because we see them as something that we are doing to ourselves. In actuality if we allowed natural consequences to assert themselves, we would have no need for man-made punishments. It is because we are too impatient, as individuals and as societies, to let the natural outcome of an action reveal itself. It is through this natural occurrence of events that nature shows us whether our actions serve us or not. We can see if the natural consequences of our choices lead us to understand that we are or are not served by those choices. By living within the paradigm of separation we are promoting the idea that punishment, for the purpose of retribution, is designed to take us to what we would term a peaceful society. Our observation of thousands of years says this is not so. Once we, as individuals and as societies, wake up and become conscious decisions makers, we may want to change the way we try to change people's behaviors. The spirituality called for in the paradigm of oneness allows natural consequences to take precedence over man-made punishments. If having a peaceful society is our goal, we would be wise to observe what works and what does not. We have plenty of documentation on what natural consequences are. If you smoke cigarettes for most of your life, the natural consequence may be that you will develop cancer. If you eat red met and do not exercise the natural consequence may be restricted arteries and heart problems. If you watch your diet and exercise regularly the natural consequence may be a long and healthy life with minimum illness. Natural consequences are the outcome of all our choices. Not just what we might term as a wrong choice, but also from what we might term as a right choice. Every choice we make has a consequence. Some consequences serve us better than others. Some consequences lead us down the path of truth, love and light and others lead us down the path of hurt, pain and anguish. It is entirely your choice which path you wish to travel. So as you make your life choices, be aware of the natural consequences of your choices. Most of us know the natural consequences from the choices we make when we think about them consciously. Conscious choice making seems to serve us while unconscious choice making does not seem to serve us. This kind of logic would lead us to believe that by making the choice to live a more conscious life we would serve ourselves better both individually and collectively. It is still a choice. It is your choice. It comes down to the dichotomy in the universe that says, “What we do that seems harder initially usually turns out to be easier in the end, and what we do that seems easier initially usually turns out to be harder in the end." Are we looking for the end result or do we want to go through life the 'easy' way? It's your choice. Once again we come back to the basic concept concerning the process of life according to the oneness paradigm. We are here to create who we are and determine who we wish to be and create that. Through the life process you get to enjoy all the experiences and natural consequences you are creating along the way. Unless you don't. It's your choice.
