Sponsorship Letter - Getting Your Point Across



If you are in the administration end of an organization, you may find yourself faced with writing a sponsorship letter. More than likely, you need to write more than one. Writing this type of letter does not need to be a frightening venture. If you truly believe in what your organization stands for, then you already have the inspiration to write a letter that will show the recipient how beneficial it would be to be one of your sponsors. Even if you do have the passion, however, you may just be a little concerned about your letter-writing skills in general. For this reason there are a few tips you can follow to write a successful sponsorship letter.

� Make sure that your passion comes across - You don't need to sound like a fanatic, but explaining to the potential sponsor what your organization does for other people and why you care so much about it can go a long way in convincing them to part with their money for.� Don't be vague about what you need - If someone opens up and reads your sponsorship letter and comes away a little confused about what you are asking for, it's very unlikely that you will hear any good news from them. You need to tell people exactly what you want from them. To be afraid to do so is to come across as unsure of your organization's worth. If you need a certain amount of money, ask for it. If you need uniforms for a team or office equipment, state this clearly. You will get more respect from the potential sponsor.� Explain the benefits - In a perfect world we would all be people who liked to give something without expecting anything in return. Unfortunately, in the corporate world that is rarely the case. In your sponsorship letter, you want to make sure that you explain the benefits that your potential sponsor will receive if they choose to sponsor you or your organization. One of the most common and most popular benefits is good public relations. This can be the best form of advertising, so mention this in your sponsorship letter.� Follow up - If you send out a letter requesting sponsorship and don't hear anything back from the potential sponsor within a week, follow up your letter with a phone call. Yes, this can be scary, but if you are working for a good cause you'll overcome that fear. It could be that your letter got lost in the shuffle, or the potential sponsor has some questions. A follow up call could be just the thing that gets you what you want.

If you take the time to write an effective sponsorship letter, you will probably be happy with the results more often than not. For a good cause, it is certainly worth the effort.
