Today both liquid chromatography columns and gas columns are generally in stainless columns. That's because stainless is strong and rigid and it has no problem withstanding high pressures or extreme temperature changes. They are also not prone to rust or corrosion and thus they have much longer life expectancy. So you can see why stainless has taken over by storm both with these columns and many other applications on the market. There are different levels of stainless with 304 being the most common and 316 being used if you are looking for a mirrored shine.
