Stainless Steel Curtain Rods: How to Install Them
|
First, you will need to obtain the following supplies: curtain rods, curtains, screwdriver set, a variable speed drill, a level, brackets, and a pencil. Next, you will need to decide if you want your curtain rods to be mounted on the window casing (frame) or on the wall. You will need to install a hollow-wall anchor if you are not going to mount the curtains on wood casing, which is a nail block or stud behind the wallboard. In order to install a hollow-wall anchor, mark the position for the anchor with a pencil. Next, drill a hole in the wall that is just big enough for the anchor. Before you push the anchor into the hole in the wall, thread it through a toggle or molly bolt. Then, place the stainless steel curtain rod over the window in order to position it. Use a level in order to ensure the rod is straight. You will want to place your brackets three to six inches from the window casing or frame. Mark the place you will place your brackets in pencil. Drill shallow holes (pilot holes) into the pencil marks on the window casing or the wall. These holes will make it easier to start the screw or anchor going into the wall or casing. Insert the screws or anchors provided by the manufacturer of your curtain rods through the bracket and into the window casing or the wall. Finally, position your stainless steel curtain rod into the brackets. You are now ready to hang your new curtains. Measuring your window for curtains is easy. You will need a measuring tape and a pencil. Make a mark with your pencil two to three inches from either side of the window. Additionally, make another mark approximately six inches above the window frame, or as high as you would like your curtains to be. Finally, mark two to three inches below your window frame. Measure with your measuring tape from top to bottom and from side to side. It is a good idea to multiply the side to side measurement by two, in order to allow for a generous curtain over the window. In general curtains hang about six inches above the window frame, two to three inches below the frame, and approximately two to three inches from either side of the window. Of course, you want to take into consideration how much light you would like to let into your home and the amount of privacy you want your curtains to offer. Following these easy steps will allow you to install your own stainless steel curtain rods. Further, following these steps will allow you to measure your windows for an ideal curtain size. You will obtain a great sense of satisfaction, knowing you completed a do it yourself home improvement project!
