Stainless Steel Electropolish: More than Improved Appearance

Apparently, stainless steel electropolish is as common as car polish or shoe polish is to most of us. Electropolish may also be called reverse plating. It is the process by which metal is polished. Metal is polished through a process that removes a little of the metal piece. Specifically, the metal piece is soaked in a tub of electrolyte. Then, it is connected to the positive terminal of a direct current power supply, which is a continuous flow of electrons from lower to higher potential. The other part of the direct current power supply, the negative terminal, is attached to a cathode, which is an electrode that electrons go into, whether it is from a cell, a diode, or a tube. In this case, part of the metal piece goes into the electrode. More specifically, the electric current attracts the particles from the metal into it. Controlling the distance, position, and size of the metal piece to be polished from the cathole allows different levels of polish and the localization of polished areas.

There are benefits to electropolishing stainless steel. First, while handling metal, particles such as iron, other metal particles, dirt, and grease naturally attach to the metal being handled. Not only does electropolishing stainless steel protect it from further damage, it also removes any inclusions, iron, dirt, and other metal particles already on the surface of stainless steel piece you are polishing. These benefits are important reasons to buy this type of stainless steel.

In addition to improving the surface of stainless steel, electropolishing the steel actually improves the structure of the particles near the surface. Further, electropolished stainless steel is protected from all types of corrosion, including galvanic corrosion, crevice corrosion, microbiologically influenced corrosion, cracking, and stress corrosion. Whenever you have anything made out of stainless steel you want to be sure that it lasts for a long time. Replacing it is not something you want to keep doing, so this stainless steel that is electro polished can be excellent to help you with this.

Another benefit of stainless steel electropolish is improved appearance. Since stainless steel is electropolished electrochemically, there are no polish lines on the finished product. Additionally, the finished product is lustrous. Stainless steel has often to be thought of as course, but with this new kind of stainless steel that is electro polished you can have a classic and beautiful stainless steel with a polished appearance. Whatever you may have that is made out of this stainless steel will catch the eye and be pleasant to view.

Further, electropolished steel may be cleaned easier than steel that is not electropolished. If you have anything made of stainless steel you want to clean it so its' beauty can be maintained. This steel makes it easier than ever to clean and looks much nicer once you have finished your cleaning. Other benefits of electropolished stainless steel may include reduced friction, reduce surface area, and improve seal quality. Thus, the benefits of stainless steel electropolish are numerous.
