Stainless Steel Pumps for Home Pools
|
* In-ground pools - Most in-ground pools are fairly large and can hold up to hundreds of thousands of gallons of water. When you have an in-ground pool built in your yard, you usually work with a dealer or contractor who sells you a pool package, which includes the pool shape, color, and design, as well as the filter and the pump. Before you order the package, you need to ask about the type of pump that they are offering with it. Ask if the pump is made primarily out of stainless steel, and if it isn't, you might want to request it. Pumps for in-ground pools are usually quite large, and are usually located in an area where they aren't going to be readily seen so that they won't detract from the yard dcor. That doesn't mean, however, that they won't be exposed to a lot of moisture. Anything near the pool is going to be exposed to moisture, and that includes the pump, even if it is enclosed in a shed. With a minimum amount of cleaning and maintenance, a quality pump that is primarily comprised of stainless steel is going to last a long time, and work more proficiently.* Above-ground pools - When you buy an above ground pool, it almost always comes with everything that you need to keep the pool clean, including the pool pump. Often, depending on the size of the pool, you'll get the entire thing in one large box. (Of course, it won't be fully assembled!). Many times the pumps that come in these pool packages are not stainless steel pumps, and a lot of the time the pool dealer won't want to break up the package for you. Though it will cost more, it is a good idea to buy a pump made primarily of stainless steel on top of the pool package that you buy. Also, as long as you are buying a stainless steel pump, you might as well buy one that is bigger and more powerful than the one that comes with the pool package. You always have the choice of selling the pump that came with the pool package, or you can simply keep it as a spare in case you are having your other pump serviced. Though you'll be spending extra money for your stainless steel model, in the long run it is going to be more cost effective, since it will last a long time.* Hot tubs and jet spas - Stainless steel pumps really make sense when it comes to hot tubs and jet spas, since the heat of the water makes the humidity around them even higher. The stainless steel will resist rust and corrosion even in that type of atmosphere, which will make maintenance that much easier.
