Stair Railing - Installing a New One
|
Important Supplies First of all, you'll want to make sure that you have all of the supplies that you need. You'll need to have the right measurements for the railings, some brad nails, newel posts, paddle bits, a board runner, balusters, and of course a good pneumatic nailer as well. These supplies will help you to get the job done right. Removing the Old Railings Of course before you actually get started on installing the new stair railings, you'll want to totally get rid of the old railings as well as the balusters and posts before you get started. This way everything is out of your way so you can get started in the new installation. Prepare the Site for Installation After getting rid of the old railings, you'll want to start preparing the site for installation. Make sure that you start out by getting the top and the bottom ready. Cut your newel posts to the right measurements to get started. Include Top and Bottom Newel Posts After you have your newel posts cut, you'll want to install them properly. The bottom post should be installed first at the bottom and you can use some good lag screws to hold it in place. Then the top post should also be installed in the very same way. Then you are ready to continue with your job of installing new stair railings. Install Railings and Nail in Tightly When you are working on the railings, you need to make sure that you install them correctly and then nail them in tightly. You don't want them to move around or be unsafe for your family. So, carefully make sure that they are in place tightly. Put on the Balusters Now you are ready to put on the balusters. These should be installed over the railings so you have something to hang on to when you are going up and down the stairs. After you have the balusters installed, you are complete with your stair railings installation and you'll only have to clean up your mess.
