Continue to go over the area with plain water until it is clear and there is no sign of soap in that water. You may need to repeat the process in high traffic areas if there is still plenty of dirty water coming up from the area after several repeated times of going over that area. It is vital that you remove all the soap when using steam vacuum cleaners. If you leave any behind the residue will become a magnet for dirt and debris. As a result you will have to clean your carpets again in a short period of time in order to keep them looking great. You also want to use quality cleaners in steam vacuum cleaners.
