Lisa began to secret shop because she wanted to do something that she enjoyed doing, and get paid for it. Her first secret shop was because she has started a self improvement plan in her life, and one of the things on her list was that she would have a job that she actually liked. She of course kept her other job, to pay most of the bills, but she found that doing a secret shop now and then when she had the spare time gave her a feeling of empowerment and control. She could do a secret shop on her own time schedule, at her own convenience, and get paid for it. Doing a secret shop gave Lisa a feeling of independence, and what was more, she loved getting to go shopping as part of her job. Lisas second self improvement tip that she was determined to follow was a little bit deeper than her superficial enjoyment, though. She wanted to begin forgiving people who had hurt her, and not only that, but forgetting. She knew from past experience that the forgiveness part was extremely simple when compared to the forgetting, but she also knew that it was a necessary part of her life in order to keep growing and have nothing that would keep her held back to the past and to sadness or bitterness. She did this for herself as well as those she would forgive. An important, and also fun, thing that Lisa decided to do to help improve her character and life was that she determined to do at least one kind thing for a stranger every day, even if it was only something as simple as opening the door for an elderly lady with a walker. She soon found that these small efforts she made gave her a better and more optimistic outlook on life in general. It was amazing how fast Lisas small acts of kindness grew into bigger ones that happened more and more often! What also amazed Lisa was how her character, and even personality, seemed to change with these actions. She found herself getting less angry in traffic when someone cut her off, and she had much more patience in general with people and situations that used to make her nervous and upset. Lisa chose a very straightforward and logical next step to her self improvement plan. She began keeping a list of everything she wanted to accomplish within the day, stretched out to weeks and sometimes even months. She kept it in a highly visible place in her home where she could see it multiple times during the day, and made sure that she checked off the things she accomplished as she went along. Seeing things getting marked off her list made her have strong feelings of achievement and satisfaction. Also, seeing these things in writing, right in her face every day, she found that she was more likely to actually get them done than she had been previously. The last thing on Lisas list was something to benefit her mind. She decided to try her best to read at least one book a month, more if possible. This gave her the down time to relax and forget the worries of the real world for just a little while, and more importantly gave her a chance to take a break from the insistence of television and media for a while.
