Stopping the Pill - How to Stop the Right Way

Many women choose to go on the pill as a method of contraception today. It is very common, but later when women want to have children of their own, they will need to come off of the pill. Stopping the pill the right way is definitely important if you want to make sure that you have the best possible chance of having a child of your own. In some cases, women have gone off the pill and ended up waiting years to have a child. So, it's important that you learn more about the pill and how you can make sure that you stop it the right way so that you don't have any problems conceiving when you want to.

What Pills Contain and How They Work

Before you go about stopping the pill, you need to understand what these pills contain and how they work as well. There are many different types of pills that are available today, but they usually work in much the same way. They usually use a combination of progestin and estrogen in the pills. This helps to make sure that you do not ovulate each month, which means that you don't get pregnant. Also, the mucous that is in the cervix becomes thicker, which means that the sperm have a harder problem even getting to the uterus.

Decreased Fertility Can Occur for a Short Period

After stopping the pill, you may find that decreased fertility can occur for a short period. If you do this the right way, in most cases it will not last for long. In many cases, this only lasts for a couple months. However, if you don't stop the right way, you may have more problems. Studies have shown that decreased fertility can occur for about three months after you take the pill.

Stop 3 Months Before You Want to Conceive

The best way to go about stopping the pill if you want to have a baby of your own is to stop taking the pill about 3-4 months before you actually want to conceive. This way those hormones don't stay in your system and cause problems with conception. In most cases this will be enough to make sure that you will be able to conceive. In those three months, usually the traces of the pill are erased from the body. However, you may want to use condoms or other barrier methods during these three months to make sure that you don't get pregnant before you are ready to.
