Stretched Labia - More Common than Women Think
|
Unless a woman is putting heavy weights there, which is unlikely in most cultures, then she is not causing the stretched labia if she has them. The most likely cause is simply genetics. Sometimes a woman will feel that her labia are stretched or way too long, when in truth they are within a normal size range. Women, especially teenagers, often worry excessively about their bodies and anything that they may consider abnormal, especially when they aren't quite sure what normal is. Stretched labia may not be stretched at all; they may be on the longer side but not abnormal in the least. If you feel that you have stretched labia that are longer than normal, a doctor can perform a cosmetic procedure to shorten them. This should only be done in extreme circumstances. If the labia are not interfering with normal functions then health insurance will most likely not pay for the procedure, and it can be expensive. If, however, the labia are abnormally long, which is possible in some cases, and actually cause a woman discomfort during normal activities, insurance may be persuaded to cover the procedure. This may be true also if the elongated labia interfere with normal sexual activity. If you are concerned about stretched labia then you should see your regular doctor or gynecologist. More often than not the doctor will tell you that everything is normal and as long as there is no interference with normal activities, nothing needs to be done. If the elongated labia are interfering with your normal activity then your doctor should send documentation to your health insurance company explaining why surgery is needed. If your doctor states the case strongly enough, you can probably get the surgery covered by your insurance. If you have surgery to shorten your labia, whether for medical or cosmetic reasons, you will probably experience some discomfort for a while afterward. As long as you are careful and don't irritate the area the labia should heal nicely and the discomfort should go away fairly soon.
