1. Ancient Mayan Calendar The first to forecast Dec 21 2012 as the end of the planet were the Mayans, a bloodthirsty race that were good at two things: Building highly correct astrological hardware out of stone and Sacrificing Virgins. Thousands of years ago they were able to work out the length of the lunar moon as 329.53020 days, only 34 seconds out. The Mayan calendar foresees the Earth will end on Dec 21 2012. Given that they were pretty close to the mark with the lunar cycle, it's likely they have the end of the planet right as well. 2. Solar Flairs Peak December 2012 Solar experts from around the world monitoring the sun have made a startling discovery : our sun is in a bit of strife. The energy output of the sun is, like most things in nature, cyclic, and it's supposed to be in the middle of a period of relative stability. However, latest solar storms have been bombarding the Earth with so much radiation energy, it's been knocking out power grids and destroying satellites. This activity is predicted to become worse, and calculations suggest it will reach its deadly top sometime around Dec 21 2012. 3. The Bible and Chinese Book Of Changes If having scientists warning us about the end of the planet isn't bad enough,religious people are getting in on the act aswell. Interpretations of the Christian Bible reveal that the date for Armageddon, the final battle between Good bad has been set down for 2012. The I Ching, also known as the Chinese book of Changes, announces a similar thing, as do various sections of the Hindu teachings. There are at least a dozen ancient cultures from across the globe with similar predictions for major earth changes around the same time. 4. Super Volcano Threats Yellowstone State Park in the U. S. is famous for its thermal springs and Old Unswerving geyser. The explanation behind this is simple - it's sitting on top of the world's biggest volcano, and geological pros are starting to get frightened sweats. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting every 650,000 years or so, and we are many years overdue for an explosion that may fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a chilly winter that might last 15,000 years. The pressure under the Yellowstone is building continuously, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the massive bang. 5. The Scientists Calculate We're Overdue For Massive Distruction This one's a case of simple mathematics. Physicists at Berekely University have been crunching the numbers. and they've determined the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Even worse, they are saying their calculations prove, that we are all going to die, very shortly - while also pronouncing their prediction comes with a certainty of ninety nine percent- and 2012 just happens to be the best guess as to when it occurs. 6. Pole Shift We all know the Earth is encircled by a magnetic field that sheilds us from almost all of the sun's radiation. What you might not know is the magnetic poles we call north and south have a unpleasant practice of swapping places every 750,000 years or so - and right now we're about 30,000 years overdue. Scientists have spotted the poles are drifting apart roughly 20-30kms each year, much faster than ever before, which points towards a pole-shift being right around the corner. While the pole shift is in progress, the magnetic field is disrupted and will at last vanish, sometimes for at least one hundred years. The result is enough UV outside to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches. And another reason to be nervous about Dec 21 2012 : 7. Planet X Nibiru Fly-By Scenario According to traditional Sumerian texts the Earth ("Tiamat") was struck by a large planet "Nibiru", which moved it into its present orbit, and made the Moon and the Asteroid Belt.
